Leasing a Tesla Model S Electric in the UK

What is the best Tesla to lease?

Until 2018 / 2019, UK customers were only provided with two options for personal or business arrangements – the Model S Saloon and the Model X SUV. In a quick turnaround, Tesla went on to launch two more affordable EVs with the Model 3 hatchback (in 2018 / 2019) and the Model Y SUV (2021 / 2022).

Indeed, because these have become some of the most-popular EVs to lease in 2022, almost all the attention was focused on these key sellers, as opposed to the luxury Saloon – the Model S. Along with the Model X, these models underwent a whole revision but, as at today’s date (June 2022) Tesla have not formally announced a release or delivery date. Although customers can place an order and deposit on both the S and X via the Tesla website.

What’s the monthly payment on the Tesla Model S?

Because there is no confirmed price for UK and Europe, the e-car lease team are not yet able to provide a confirmed monthly price for this BEV just yet. However, with the Model S being a direct competitor to the Audi e-Tron GT, the Mercedes EQS and the Porsche Taycan, expect an OTR to be in and around £110,000+. For lease deals, this could mean monthly prices of around £900 - £1,500 specification and contract dependent.

Do we know which Model S specifications will launch in the UK?

Because of product and battery variation, keeping up with the Model S has been a challenge. It now seems that there will be two key Model S options to choose between for UK leasing customers:

  1. Model S AWD Auto – the “base” model option will operate from a usable battery of 95 kWh. This allows for 3.2 second 0 – 62mph times, 155mph top speeds and 500 kW of power (or 671hp). On range, expect cold weather to allow for around 300 miles combined and 420 miles in warmer temperatures. On charging times, the 16.5 kW AC max means that 0 – 100% can happen in around 7 hours with the 250 kW DC max allowing 30-minute rapid charging for 10 – 80%; and
  2. Model S Plaid AWD Auto - the upgraded model option will operate from a usable battery of 95 kWh. However, this performance-led saloon has been tweaked to allow for 2.1 second 0 – 62mph times, 155mph top speeds and 760 kW of power (or 1019hp). On range, expect cold weather to allow for around 290 miles combined and 400 miles in warmer temperatures. On charging times, the 16.5 kW AC max means that 0 – 100% can happen in around 7 hours with the 250 kW DC max allowing 30-minute rapid charging for 10 – 80%. In terms of specification, the Plaid will add carbon-sleeved motors and torque vectoring.

While both models in the Model S are somewhat robust, Tesla are offering some exciting features for creating the perfect EV solution. Upgrade from the standard 19” alloys to the 21” Arachnid wheels if style is your forte. Or, for more autonomy, add the Enhanced Autopilot for navigation on autopilot, auto lane change, Autopark, summon and smart summon OR go for the Full Self-Driving Capability which adds traffic light and stop sign controls plus autosteer on city streets.

But should I, or the business, lease the Model S Tesla?

Understanding the finance products available to you is essential to having the right experience with your next green car. While the e-car lease website has some amazing tools which help you, or the fleet manager, to understand product suitability, it’s also important to note that ALL of our offers are based on contract hire.

This is a usership product which enables personal, business or salary sacrifice customers to use an electric vehicle for a set amount of time, on a fixed mileage and which is constructed on an initial rental / deposit which is suitable for their needs and requirements. For PCH customers, this is the most cost-certain finance product to use and is great for those consumers who do not enjoy buying / selling vehicles.

For businesses, there are additional benefits relating to tax which cement this as the most popular finance product to utilise. However, contact hire, or leasing, is not suitable anyone wanting to purchase the vehicle at the end. If buying the Model S is crucial to you, then you will need to utilise a different finance product such as Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), Hire Purchase (HP) or Lease Purchase. Businesses should always speak with their accountants and financial advisers regarding their tax position and status.

Can we lease a Tesla Model S today?

Until Tesla announce a formal price and ordering schedule, for UK customers they need to pay a deposit and await the manufacturer to update us so that we can confirm the deal (no, we don’t know how much a Tesla is per month in the UK yet!). There are no new Model S EVs in stock. To move forward, simply select your preferred model from our dedicated pure electric website. For an instant price, choose your term (2/3/4 years), annual mileage (5000 – 20,000 per annum), initial rental / deposit (including no deposit options) and the driver / funder-maintained requirements.
