Leasing an Audi Q4 in the UK

With the e-tron becoming one of the best luxury SUVs to lease, it wasn’t surprising that Audi introduced even more great options to select within their product suite with the introduction of a smaller SUV – the Q4 e-tron. But how big is the Q4? It’s sometimes very difficult to understand how big, or small, a car is online and via digital images. Indeed, many e-car lease customers presumed this was a smaller crossover to lease, similar to a Niro EV or Kona.

The Q4 is actually more similar to the Q5 combustion in size and appearance; because EVs do not have an engine, they offer more cabin and boot space. The Q4 should therefore be compared against the BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQA, or even the Volvo XC40. The e-tron is more similar in capacity to the combustion Q7, so consider that option against a Mercedes EQC (or upcoming EQS SUV) or the BMW iX.

The Q4 was released to the UK in 2021, with deliveries taking place towards the end of the year. No sooner had an estate model been launched, Audi soon launched their Sportback alternative for those personal or business leasing customers looking for something sportier and coupe-like.

The UK is very much SUV obsessed and this has proved to be no different with battery electric vehicles; becoming the UK’s number one electric car manufacturer will necessitate some great crossover and 4x4 vehicles.

In terms of the Q4 trim levels, Audi have retained much of the familiar trim levels, with each being available in three slightly different battery formats. On the trim selection, consider:

  • Sport – from £42,575, enjoy 19” alloys, comfort suspension, Audi drive select, progressive steering. LED headlights and daytime running lights, gloss styling pack, power-operated tailgate, folding mirrors with LED indicators, acoustic glass, sports seats, heated front seats, 4-way electric seats, 3-zone air conditioning, leather multifunction steering wheel, front armrest, navigation plus, virtual cockpit (with a 10.25” screen), cruise control, keyless-go, rear parking sensors.
  • S Line – from £44,675 this model has 20” alloys, sport suspension, S Line styling, privacy glass, door sill trims with “S” logo, ambient lighting package, “S” emblem steering wheel and stainless-steel pedals;
  • Edition 1 – from £48,750 this car has upgraded 20” alloys, matrix LED headlights, dynamic headlight range, headlight washers, black styling pack, full body paint finish, leather sports seats, electrically adjustable seats, memory function for seats, splits-folding rear seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel, ambient lighting plus pack; and
  • Vorsprung – from £56,275.00, the elite model offers 21” alloys, suspension with damper control, fine Nappa leather, virtual cockpit plus, panoramic glass sunroof, SONOS premium sound, augmented reality HUD, parking system plus, pre-sense basic and rear, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera and the advanced key.

All of these specifications can be selected (at present) in either estate OR Sportback with a choice of 3 battery options including:

  • E-tron 35 – a usable 52 kWh lithium battery with 125 kW (or 168hp in combustion language) which delivers 0 -62 times of 9 seconds and 99mph top speeds. The range of the “35” is 150 miles (combined) in winter and 200 miles (combined) in warmer weather. The charging time on the 35 will be 8 hours and 30mins on the 7.2 kW AC max for 0 – 100% and just over 30 minutes on rapid charge (based on a 118 kW DC max from 10 – 80%);
  • E-tron 40 – a usable 76 kWh lithium battery with 150 kW (or 201hp in combustion language) which delivers 0 -62 times of 8.5 seconds and 99mph top speeds. The range of the “40” is 210 miles (combined) in winter and 285 miles (combined) in warmer weather. The charging time on the 40 will be 8 hours and 15mins on the 11 kW AC max for 0 – 100% and just over 30 minutes on rapid charge (based on a 135 kW DC max from 10 – 80%); and
  • E-tron 50 Quattro – the 4WD version has a usable 76 kWh lithium battery with 220 kW (or 295hp in combustion language) which delivers 0 -62 times of 6.2 seconds and 112mph top speeds. The range of the “50” is 205 miles (combined) in winter and 270 miles (combined) in warmer weather. The charging time on the 50 will be 8 hours and 15mins on the 11 kW AC max for 0 – 100% and just over 30 minutes on rapid charge (based on a 135 kW DC max from 10 – 80%).

And leasing, or contract hire as we refer to it at e-car, is a great financial product for enjoying the electric vehicles now on offer. For many businesses, and salary sacrifice schemes, the Q4 presents a tax efficient product for the driver based on the 2% BiK and reduced Whole of Life costs. And for the company / employer, there are positive accounting and financial reasons for enjoying electric cars, not least of all upcoming decarbonisation strategies like Congestion Zones, low-emission zones and Clean Air Zones across towns and cities.

And for individual customers while company car tax is not relevant, cheaper fuel costs (particularly with solar panels and battery storage), cheaper servicing and maintenance plus the chargeable zones all need consideration. But also remember that EVs are fun and the Q4 offers blistering 0 – 62 times compared to combustion equivalents!

How much is an Audi Q4 Electric to lease?
Ranging between £42,000 - £56,000 (at the time of writing in April 2022), this electric SUV estate and coupe is very much a prestige option for UK customers. Expect the better leasing deals to offer monthly prices of around £450 - £750 dependent up the car, specification and contract. This Q4 will not be a cheap or budget model.

Is an Audi Q4 a good car to lease?
The existing e-tron, and super car GT option, have been receiving very positive feedback from the review websites and drivers operating them. The fact that nearly 7,500 e-trons were registered in 2021 is true testament to Audi’s success.  In terms of the Q4, the What Car? team rate this as 4/5, the CarWow team 9/10 and Top Gear 8/10. It’s fair to say that for luxury mid-sized SUVs in BEV format this is certainly one to consider.

Is a Audi Q4 electric lease right for me or the business?
The fact is that EVs are not right for every personal or business customer nor would our team ever encourage someone to lease one without fully understanding the EV-lifestyle. There are nuances of operating electric vehicles which does need further thought compared to combustion alternatives – seasonal range, charging speeds, cost per mile, charge point infrastructure at home / workplace and insurance. The Q4 is likely to impress most customers, and fleet managers, with its impressive styling, practicality and e-performance.

Where do I find the best Audi Q4 lease deals in the UK?
e-car lease are not a lender or dealership; we are a credit broker working with the leading finance companies and franchised dealerships. For our customers, personal, business and salary sacrifice, this means the leading discounts and prices for EVs. However, you might also see us price comparisons websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher and LeaseLoco or on review websites like Discover EV and the GreenCarGuide too. But for those customers who want to know if it’s better to lease or buy an Audi Q4, head to your local Audi dealer for a test-drive and quotation. Compare your PCP or HP purchase offering against our contract hire (usership) product.

What is the Cheapest Audi Q4 Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (April 2022) the ESTATE 125kW 35 55.52kWh Sport 5dr Auto is the cheapest to lease in most cases. However, because of our discounts and RVs, sometimes the S Line, which costs more, will be cheaper to lease.

What is the range of an electric Audi Q4?
Ascertaining how far an EV can travel on a full charge is often high on customer’s agenda, particularly where it is their first-time buying or leasing an EV. But what you need to appreciate is that electric vehicles operate differently based on driving conditions, driver behaviours and outside temperatures. For example, the Q4 40 will cover 180 miles on the motorway in winter compared to 230 in warmer temps. In the same way, the car can travel around 250 miles in city-driving during colder climates compared to the 370 in summer! For Q4 customers looking for the longest range choose the 40 model, although many low-mileage customers will be more than satisfied with the 35 model.

Can you tow an Audi Q4?
Yes – a towbar (folding) can be added to the Q4 for around £900.However, this is only available on the 40 and 50 models. Audi do not provide the towing options for the 35 / smaller battery model.

What is the towing capacity of the Audi Q4?
The vehicle has a towing weight (unbraked) of 750kg and a towing weight (braked) of 1200kg.

What is the MPG of the Audi Q4?
The car has the following equivalent MPGs based on the battery chosen – the 35 has an fuel equivalent of 136mpg, the 40 has a fuel equivalent of 132mpg and the 50 has a fuel equivalent of 127mpg.
