Leasing a Peugeot e-2008 in the UK

The UK is very much a nation of SUV, crossover and 4x4 enthusiasts – both personal and business leasing customers enjoy the higher-driving position, safety and spacious interior for families (and pets). The ever popular 2008, which is an elevated 208, made its way into the world of electrification with the all-electric model going on sale in 2020.

The zero emission 2008 is one to consider against the Mokka-e, Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro EV. And not only is the 2008 a striking car visually, with a unique interior, this also benefits from the quality engineering which Stellantis are now being known for. For any families looking for a smaller electric SUV to lease on a budget, make sure the Peugeot forms part of the discussion. In July 2023, the Peugeot re-branded their 2008 model, which was formerly made-up of the below:

  •  Active Premium;
  •  Allure Premium;
  •  GT; and
  • Gt Premium

But from July 2023, UK leasing customers will now be able to enjoy:

  •  Active – at £36,350 this base model offers wireless Mirror Screen, air conditioning, rear parking sensors, eco LED headlights and automatic lights and wipers and 16” alloys;
  • Allure – at £38,350 this option adds 17” karakoy alloys, head-up instrument panel, 10” HD colour screen, front and rear parking sensors, gloss black roof bars, tri-material interior, active safety brake and dark tinted windows;
  •  GT – from £40,555 customers benefit from full LED headlights with Smartbeam assist, 3D instrument panel, smartphone charging plate, Open & Go plus a 180 degree parking camera and 8-colour ambient lighting. Option 18” alloys are available; and
  •  First Edition – from £41,600 this includes Alcantara seats, driver seat with massage function, heated front seats, 3D connected navigation and 11kW AC charger.

The technology upgrades in the new 2023 electric SUV from Peugeot will see a new compact multi-function steering wheel, 10” capacitive onscreen (HD), i-Cockpit drive selector, piano key toggle switches, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping assistance, speed limit recognition, Smartbeam assistance, panoramic opening sunroof and docking station.

But should I, or the company, be leasing the 2008?

Looking for the best finance product on this small SUV can cause headaches for some of our customers. Most of this is generally down to the poor information on electric cars and different products available. In terms of ensuring the 2008 is correct for you in the pure electric format use our leading “Living with your …” tools to assess everything from range – charging times – cables – charging cost – charge point infrastructure and beyond. In terms of  “leasing”, or contract hire as we refer to it, you just have to understand that this is a long-term rental based on a 2, 3 or 4 year contract.

We call it usership because you never own or buy the car. For a personal customer looking at this, simply compare a lease against a PCP (which works in a similar fashion with the exception of a balloon / GFV at contract end) or Hire Purchase (HP) which is effectively a loan secured against the car for you to pay off. For businesses not wanting to use rental products, then consider a finance lease (which works in a similar fashion with the exception of a balloon / final rental at contract end) or similar HP solutions. It isn’t about right or wrong; this is about choosing something suitable for your needs and requirements.

And while the 2008 offers 2% BiK in the electric format for your business and salary sacrifice customers, this doesn’t mean similar financial benefits don’t apply for PCH customers too. Many will note company car and salary sacrifice schemes moving to electrification as they are not only the most tax effective solution for the driver (at 2% BiK the tax exposure is nominal) but they can represent a much better option for the company and fleet managers too. And all types of customers can enjoy the enhanced Whole of Life cost savings on fuel, maintenance and servicing with the e-2008.
So how does the new 2008 Perform?

This FWD SUV will have a 50.8 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.1 seconds, 93 mph top speeds and 115 kW (or 154 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 155 miles with warmer weather allowing for 215 miles. On charging, the 7.4 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 15 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 100 kW DC maximum allowing 26 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 434L is available with this 4.3m EV. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 147 mpg. This EV cannot tow.
