Leasing a Volkswagen ID.Buzz in the UK

There was almost certainly a “Buzz” when the VW group launched yet another reputable fully electric option to their ID family in the form of a multi-utility vehicle / car derived van (basically a reinvention of the historic and legendary T1). The aptly named ID.Buzz, together with a commercial offering in the Buzz Cargo, are adding a different zero-emission solution to the personal and business leasing industry.

But is the VW.ID Buzz electric not a camper?

At initial launch, this will just be an MPV, so is aimed at those customers with bigger families who need “e-mobility in its purest form”. In essence, this is a spacious vehicle which is aimed at practical and comfortable mobility underpinned with robust battery technology.

Indeed, the ID.Buzz will be a direct competitor to the Vauxhall Vivaro e-Life, the Citroen e-Space Tourer and the Nissan e-NV200. And as of June 2022, VW announced that UK customers could go and order the ID.Buzz in its MPV format with the Cargo and campervan to follow in 2023 and beyond.

What options are available in the ID.Buzz and how much will it cost?

As at today (July 2022) there will be 3 options to choose from including:

  •  Life Pro – starting at around £57,000 customers can enjoy ambient lighting, heated front seats, Discover pro navigation with a 10” screen, digital cockpit, climate control, heated front and rear windscreen, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, e-sound, keyless start, park assist including front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, LED headlights, privacy glass and 19” alloys;
  • Style Pro- with a price tag of just under £62,000 customers can enjoy additional specification above the Life including 30-colour ambient lighting, carpet floors, infotainment surround, dynamic light assist, electrically-operate tailgate, LED matrix lights, LED rear clusters and 20” alloys; and
  •  1st Edition Pro – this limited edition will be priced around £63,000 and will have similar specification levels to the Style apart from powered front seats with driver memory, upgraded infotainment system with 12” screen and 20” alloys.

What’s also quite fascinating about this electric MPV is the wide-range of colour choices, including solid paints, metallic paints and two-tone contrast paints. And with 6 interior colour options, this is set to be one of the most unique and fascinating electric vehicles to choose in 2022 and 2023. And remember that this is a practical vehicle, with a maximum load space of 1,100 litres and a spacious 5-seat interior.

But will the ID.Buzz be a 7 seater family car?

VW has confirmed that this will be available in a 5,6 or 7 seat format but only the 5 seat version will launch as at 2022. Customers researching the best 7-seat EVs may need to wait until 2023 – 2024.

Crucially, what is the range and electric performance of an ID.Buzz?

The good news is that this BEV is following some tried and tested electric tech in the form of an ID.3/4/5 as well as the historic e-UP! and e-Golf. In summary, VW are anything other than new to the world of EVs. This pure EV will operate from a usable 77 kWh battery which has a reasonable performance including 10.2 second 0-62 times, 90mph top speeds and 150 kW (or 201hp).

On range, expect combined cold weather distances of 175 miles on a full charge, with warmer climates allowing for 230 miles. In terms of charging times / capability on the Buzz EV, the 11 kW AC maximum will enable 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the robust 170 kW DC maximum allowing sub-30 minute 10 – 80 % times. On a domestic charge point, which is 7.4 kW, this will take just over 12 hours to full charge.

Is the ID.Buzz your perfect electric family vehicle?

With the new MPV now being prepared for sale or lease in the UK, we expect deliveries to commence around Autumn – Winter 2022. Because of the interest and a limited allocation, it is expected that a £4000 holding and security deposit will be required on each vehicle. But before you order, use our e-car lease “living with your …” tools to appreciate just how good this new pure electric option from VW really is.

With a range analysis, battery capability, charge times, charging cost calculator and cost per mile all provided, understanding what it will actually cost on a personal, business and salary sacrifice arrangement is so simple. For a lease just choose a term (2/3/4 years), annual mileage (5000 – 20,000 per annum), initial rental / deposit (including no deposit options) and input your driver or funder-maintained requirements. How much is a VW ID.Buzz Electric to lease?
With price tags on the upcoming RWD options of around £57,000 - £63,000, this is not going to be a cheap EV for the family. With economies of scale, and an availability of parts / microchips, this may come down in price toward 2023 / 2024.

Is a VW ID.Buzz Electric a good car to lease?
