Leasing a Peugeot e-308 Electric in the UK

Why aren’t there more affordable electric cars to lease?

A genuine query raised by many UK car leasing customers, as they look to adhere to the Governmental ambitions for us to be all-electric by 2030 / 2035 (according to their recent publications). While manufacturers have reacted positively to the news, there have been stock and product shortages, with certain segments having little to no options available.

But the PSA group, which sits within the Stellantis organisation, is now enjoying greater economies of scale – brands include Citroen, Vauxhall, Dodge, Chrysler, Maserati – and this is enabling a more robust product suite for customers. And while the e-208 hatchback and e-2008 SUV have already settled into the market, many personal, company car drivers and salary sacrifice schemes  do need a bigger option, including an estate function.

The good news is that the popular 308 has now been confirmed as a pure electric solution, which will build on the existing petrol, diesel and hybrid formats currently available.

Due to launch later in 2023 (suggested June 2023), the Peugeot 308 will consist of both hatchback and SW format. It is the latter derivative, the compact estate, which is an interesting addition as a customer can only enjoy the MG5 if they need an electric estate car.

Although Vauxhall are likely to introduce a sports tourer to their hatchback EV too, families with multiple children, pets or golf clubs (and beyond) do need ergonomic EVs which are both practical yet affordable. And Peugeot are now seen as a higher quality vehicle since their Stellantis integration, displacing the myth that the French product is unsuitable or difficult to operate. Brand confidence, particularly with batteries, is now a key part of manufacturer success. With the e-308 set to use the successful EMP2 platform, this hatch and estate will adopt a bigger battery than its 208 supermini equivalent.

What specifications are available on the new e-308?

With limited information, the suggestions are that the combustion, hybrid and pure electric will all adopt similar specifications including:

  •  Allure – this offers Peugeot i-Cockpit with a 10” touchscreen, eco LED headlights, multifunction steering wheel, Peugeot i-Connect, Viso Park 1 (with reversing camera), 17” alloy wheels, connected 3D navigation, dark tinted windows, x2 USB sockets, high beam assist, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, electric folding and heated door mirrors,
  •  GT – includes clean cabin technology, heated steering wheel, driver sport pack (personalised colour theme), alcantara upholstery, carpet mats, 18” alloys, full matrix LED headlights and LED 3D Peugeot lights, carpet mats and gloss black roof rails on the SW version.

And how does the e-308 perform – is this a good electric car?

  • 308 hatchback – (from £37,000) the usable 51 kWh lithium battery offers 115 kW (or 154hp), 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds and 93 mph top speeds. On range, the 308 electric should cover around 160 miles in colder weather on a full charge with warmer weather allowing for 220 miles. And does it charge quickly enough? This hatchback allows 11 kW AC max for 5 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% times with the 100kW DC rapid charge capabilities providing for 28 minute 10 – 80 times. The vehicle has a fuel equivalent of 151 mpg. The hatchback has a 412L cargo volume. There is no towing weight indicated with the electric 308; and
  •  308 estate – (from £38,000) the usable 51 kWh lithium battery offers 115 kW (or 154hp), 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds and 93 mph top speeds. On range, the estate electric should cover around 155 miles in colder weather on a full charge with warmer weather allowing for 215 miles. And does it charge quickly enough? The SW allows 11 kW AC max for 5 hour and 30 minute 0 – 100% times with the 100kW DC rapid charge capabilities providing for 28 minute 10 – 80% times. The vehicle has a fuel equivalent of 147 mpg. The SW has a more substantial 608L cargo volume. There is no towing weight indicated with the electric 308.

Not unlike many other manufacturers, you will need to register your interest with Peugeot asap if you do want to be one of the early adopters of this new EV. With deliveries planned towards the end of 2023, the e-car team are still (at May 2023) eagerly awaiting further details.

How much is a Peugeot e-308 to lease?
With limited information available, the e-car lease team do not yet have exact rentals for the new e-308 prices. But with the hatch and estate set to be priced around £36,000 - £40,000+, leasing deals will likely be around £300 - £450 per month depending on the car, specification and your individual contract requirements. The e-car lease website utilises an instant quote generator, so you or the company can build the arrangement which meets your needs and requirements.

Is a Peugeot e-308 a good car to lease?
The all electric version of the Peugeot 308 has not yet officially launched for order or review by the major automotive publications. However, the petrol and diesel combustion formats have been subject to test-drives and analysis with Auto Express rating this at 4/5, CarWow at 8/10 and What Car? at 3/5. Described as “one of the most eye-catching hatchbacks” and “impressive build quality”, it looks like the VW ID3, Cupra Born and MG4 are set to have some firm competition.

Is a Peugeot e-308 lease right for me or the business?
There are a number of factors which will be relevant to a personal or business lease customer – aesthetics, ergonomics, range, charging times and charge point infrastructure. The added complications which EVs bring relate to your charge points and costs for charging when comparing this to petrol or diesel options. There are also queries on how quickly the car can charge on AC or DC (rapid) and how far the EV will travel on full charge. Our e-car website provides all this data to you, or for your fleet manager, so you can make the right decision.

Where do I find the best Peugeot e-308 lease deals in the UK?
At the present (October 2022), there are very few deals on the new electric option from Peugeot. As soon as we receive the data from the select finance companies we work alongside (such as Alphabet, LeasePlan, Lex and Novuna), the best deals can be found in our special offers section. Expect more to follow on price comparisons leasing websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, Moneyshake, LeaseFetcher or LeaseLoco. Should we buy or lease the Peugeot 308 electric? Head to your local dealership and ask for a comparison PCP, HP or cash purchase quotation.

What is the cheapest Peugeot e-308 leasing option?
At the time of writing (September 2022) there have been no official launch models on the new 308 EV. However, it is anticipated the £36,000 starting price will relate to the entry-model Active Premium.

What is the range of a Peugeot e-308?
Where the e-car lease website is unique compared to other finance companies, brokers and dealerships is that our information is based on the EVDB analysis for the key facets of an EV; we do not cherry-pick the best results to convince our customers to go electric. Every vehicle will have an in-depth and robust comparison via our “living with your …” tools. For example, the 308 hatchback will offer a cold weather range of 185 miles if driving in a city / town at lower speeds in comparisons to 135 miles on a motorway. In warmer weather this improves to 285 miles in city and town driving compared to 175 miles on a motorway. When looking at the range of the e-308, make sure you look at vehicle’s performance in different terrains and temperatures.
