Our latest electric car lease deal -Tesla Model Y REWD (Juniper)- perfect fro your Cafe or Coffee Shop?
Statistically, numerically and financially the electric car transition is working. As we pass through into March 2025, the headlines you are noticing in the UK’s media and publishing organisations are very much changing.
Historically, much of what you would read would focus on the negatives; EVs are expensive, there are insufficient chargers or there is no demand in the personal / consumer market. Yet we are at another watershed moment, where uptake demand is now meeting the production and supply element.
Now this isn’t just in the new car sector. Used electric car schemes for the retail public and salary sacrifice schemes are growing in popularity, which is now addressing the uncertainties at auction or for used-car retailers. More positive publications are suggesting “EVs account for one in four new car registrations” and “electric car sales see massive boost” or “motorists are voting with their feet”.
n the recent SMMT data which looks back on the performance for February 2025, there were some incredibly buoyant results for the world of BEV:
The concern facing many manufacturers and brands, is how realistic the ZEV targets under the Labour Government are. More so when there have been submissions that the 2030 targets of 80%, could become a 100% target instead.
While 1 in 4 cars are pure electric, this is still some distance from a 100% zero-emission economy. Even more concerning is how we approach purely electric vans / commercial vehicles. However, with brands still investing in their products, technology and batteries, the environment for UK customers continues to be a positive one.
This explains why many café and coffee shop owners, who operate a limited company, are making that transition into BEV tech. It isn’t just large company fleets and salary sacrifice schemes which are fuelling the change of fuel types in the UK.
Small businesses, like the tea rooms and coffee bars which are on most street corners, are key to helping more and more new EVs to be sold or leased. As any business owner will note, the costs of your enterprise are not always cheap and you need to look at smart ways in which you can operate a business effectively and financially.
With Corporation Tax now at 25% for most companies, ensuring you minimise your yearly tax bills should be high on the agenda. Traditionally, because many business would go for a petrol or diesel vehicle, this would be done via a car allowance / cash for car. Q
Quite simply, the company car tax you would incur in leasing it via the business would make the whole exercise a little costly. Since the UK’s tax regime is fundamentally centred around emissions, the more popular SUVs with higher CO2s would incur some seismic BiK calculations.
To get around the situation above, many baristas and coffee entrepreneurs will utilise a commercial vehicle, like a pick-up or an LCV / van. Not only are these far more cost-effective on tax, they also serve as a pragmatic business tool and offer an opportunity to advertise the brand to the locality.
With an electric car, or van, there are at least some healthy benefits for procuring battery tech. As this is a zero-emission facet, the level of tax you pay as an employee is significantly reduced compared to the petrol / diesel models. In many cases you pay £25-£75 per month at source compared to the £250 - £600 many drivers have incurred.
As for the business, the monthly rental can be offset against corporation tax, with up to 50% of the VAT on the finance and some 100% of the VAT on the maintenance element being reclaimed. With leasing, you don’t have the ownership obligations or undertakings, so there is no requirement to take on the vehicle after contract cessation. The potential residual value issue does not exist with contract hire.
The obvious advantage to moving your fleet electric also relates to vehicle performance. As the brand-new Model Y Tesla rear wheel drive shows, these are impressive machines which deliver range, performance and whole of life savings (relating to fuel and servicing / maintenance). This is not a compensatory vehicle.
The “Juniper” base model is the RWD which will start from around £44,990. Standard specification includes 19” alloys, electrically powered front seats (with heating and ventilation), heated rear seats, 15.4” screens in front, 8” screen in the back, 8 exterior cameras, hands-free boot, ambient interior lights, tinted rear glass, active safety (emergency braking, blind-spot collision warning and lane departure warning), heated steering wheel, basic autopilot, dashcam and sentry mode.
The colour choices include Stealth Grey, Pearl White, Solid Black, Quicksilver and Ultra Red. Interior can be black or white. You can add additional options like the enhanced autopilot (dumb summon, smart summon, autopark and assisted driving on the motorway) or the full self-driving facility (for minimal driver intervention). A tow-hitch can be added for £1090 via Tesla direct.
