The press is used as a funnel for both good and bad news with the electric industry in the UK. So far in 2025 we have received a healthy mix of reasons why you MUST get an electric vehicle in 2025 but with corresponding information and articles objecting that battery vehicles are the foremost solution for UK drivers.

The truth is that having an off-road charging experience does make for a more reliable and enjoyable EV driver journey - especially when you compare the cost of charging an EV at home v charging on the public network.

For customers who do not have off-road facilities, the ability to charge more easily and conveniently is a must. The recent  BBC  article  on the recent improvements to Slough on-street kerbside charging points is welcome positivity to the EV campaign.

With the council receiving nearly £2.5m in funding to install kerbside solutions for residents with no off-street parking, we have clarity on what is being done to help UK drivers more confidently move from combustion to BEV transport.

The Department for Transport Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) will be providing the funds for this, much like the other projects it has already signed off in 2025. For Slough, there is an expectation that work on these kerbside chargers will take place later in 2025. So, for any personal or business customer, who lives in this locality, having readily available charging access will be a big motivator to go electric. With an appearance more suited to a sand buggy from the iconic Mad Max film, the crossover solution from Cupra dispels any myths that EVs are boring or tame. For UK customers seeking that thrill, performance and delivery of fun, the Tavascan must enter the debate.

A “Dream Comes True” so suggests the tagline from the brand. The new SUV is about self-expression, emotion experiences and connectivity for the future. With budgets and preferences in mind there will be two core motor choices (which we detail below) being the standard Tavascan and the VZ Tavascan.

In the UK you can choose between:

•  V1 - from £47,350 this includes 19” machined alloys, heated and foldable door mirrors, electric tailgate with virtual pedal, dark tinted rear windows, anti-theft alarm, navigation, 5.3” digital cockpit, 15” central display infotainment, wireless phone charging and integration, ambient lighting, rain/light sensor, 3-zone climate control, heated steering wheel (multifunction), lane assist, emergency assist, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, traffic sign recognition, intelligent park assist, keyless entry, forward collision and bucket seats (in cloth);            
•  V2 - from £53,845 this adds 21” copper alloys, matrix beam signature lights, panoramic sunroof, Sennheiser Premium Audio, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, heated seats, augmented HUD, dynamic chassis control;

•  VZ1 - from £55,945 this changes the motor but has key specification like the 21” copper alloys, panoramic sunroof, Sennheiser Premium Audio; and 
•  VZ2 - from £60,845 this has 21” forged alloy wheels and Cupra bucket seats which are heated/ventilated.

But how will the new Tavascan electric perform?

•  Standard Tavascan  - this RWD SUV will have a 77 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 6.8 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 210kW (or 282hp). Expect a combined winter range of 230 miles with warmer weather allowing for 320 miles – a 275 mile combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 15 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 135 kW DC maximum allowing 28 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 540L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 145 mpg. You can tow with this EV – 750kg (Unbraked) and 1000kg (Braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities (so far). The Heat Pump is an additional option;

•  VZ  - this AWD SUV will have a 77 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 5.5 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 250kW (or 335hp). Expect a combined winter range of 220 miles with warmer weather allowing for 300 miles – a 265 mile combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 15 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 135 kW DC maximum allowing 28 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 540L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 139 mpg. You can tow with this EV – 750kg (Unbraked) and 1200kg (Braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities (so far). The Heat Pump is an additional option.
