Are Porsche really producing electric cars? If there was one manufacturer which could provide credence to the electrification of automobiles it would have to be Porsche. Their reputation for producing the ultimate driving machines is paramount – they possess a range of exquisite cars including the iconic 911, the functional Panamera and the ever-popular SUV in the form of the Macan. Do Porsche ever produce a bad car?
The Taycan is the Porsche answer to the growing electric car segment. The Taycan, or “Soul, electrified” as the Porsche team describe it, brings the luxury and practicality of the Panamera but with sporty and edgy features of the 911. With prices starting from £80,000 this is unlikely to be a mass-market solution but one which will bring an incredibly exciting proposition to the luxury EV segment. For the last couple of years business owners, or those personal customers with a healthy budget, have been restricted to the Tesla Model S (not that it is an issue). However, there really wasn’t a choice outside of that. Many of latest additions have been SUV/4×4 product. The Taycan is a true game-changer for BEV customers and 2020 will be a key year in the Tesla v Porsche debate.
Where budget is less of a restriction for you (or your business) as an EV driver, the £139,000 plus Turbo S could be the perfect personal or business contract hire solution; many high-earning directors will be considering making the conversion to what is effectively an electric supercar based on its 0% BiK tax position from April 2020. A wholesome 93kWh lithium-ion battery produces a blistering 761ps, 2.8 second 0-62 times and top speeds of 155mph. In terms of range, WLTP stats suggests just over 250 miles will be achievable, although 205 miles is Porsche’s default position on their website’s range-calculator. If you are using a faster 11kW charging unit via the Type 2 port, you can expect 0-100% in just over 9 hours. Capable of up to 270kW DC via the CCS fast charge port, 10-80% is still achievable in just over 20 minutes.
Have Porsche produced the ultimate EV driving experience with the Turbo S Taycan?
