With the incredible success of the Model S creating new and exciting interest in the Tesla brand, the group created a family-friendly and spacious electric car – the Tesla Model X. Launched in 2015, this mid-sized luxury SUV provided an option for those customers who required people-carrying facilities while offering the SUV and crossover styling which is becoming so important. The UK, in particular, has become a nation obsessed with all things 4×4. With just under 2500 litres of storage, towing capacity of over 2,000KG and up to 7 seats, the Model X is a genuinely usable car; the fact it is purely electric is merely icing on the cake.
Pricing makes this a luxury/prestige car. The entry level Long Range will start from nearly £83,000 and a performance is priced at over £96,000! The upcoming Model Y, which is similar to the Model 3 (but in SUV format), will provide a much more affordable proposition to personal and business leasing customers. If you are looking to lease a Range Rover Sport/Vogue, BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE and need a great EV alternative, this is one to add to the list.
The Long Range is available in 5, 6 or 7 seat format, making this the most flexible electric family car available to lease. The 98kWh lithium-ion battery offers a 314-mile range (WLTP), 4.4 seconds for 0-62, 155mph and 417ps. The Performance version offers a more exciting 0-62 time of 2.7 seconds, 605ps and a WLTP range of just over 300 miles. Charging times on the Type 2 Charge port are around 7 hours to achieve full capacity using a 22kW AC fast charger (the car will charge at just under 17kW AC); this will be around 12 hours on a standard 7kW home charging unit. Like the Model S, the supercharging capability is set at 200kW DC meaning you can charge from 10-80% in around 40 minutes or, as Tesla put it, add around 111 miles per 15 minutes. Tesla customers with a Model X can enjoy free supercharging miles i.e. you can charge your Model X for free at a designated Tesla charge point – it does not include every charge point across the UK.
Specification-wise, the Model X offers much of the technology and practical facets you would need from a car such as artificial leather, 20” alloys, active safety technologies, air suspension, autopilot hardware (8 camera/12 ultrasonic sonars), navigation, 17” touchscreen, LED lights, tow pack, 12-way electric seats with lumbar support, keyless entry and a heated steering wheel. The Performance offers enhanced interior styling
