Geely are a brand which have suddenly exploded in the UK, with their new EX2 launching this week (24 August 2026) and the EX5 SUV already in distribution. The multinational group, officially called Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (ZGH), has been a manufacturer of electronic items for 40 years.

Their move into the automotive industry only happened in 1997, launching their Geely Auto Group. Many European and British customers will not be intrinsically aware of what this team are about, with Geely effectively sitting behind some other brands like Volvo, Lotus, Polestar, Smart and Proton.

As you may have seen announced today (27 August 2026) the Geely team confirmed that their ultra-rapid charging technology is on route.

Not unlike the recent BYD and Denza announcement where Flash Charging was confirmed for the UK, with up to 1500kW sessions, the Geely team are also pioneering a similar strategy. As reported in  Female First  a 1000V EV technology will be utilised to allow UK drivers to enjoy 5 – 6 minute 10 – 80% charging experience via powerful 1500kW DC chargers.

A competitor to the BYD Flash Charger, this will enable a UK BEV to charge quicker than a combustion option would take to fuel at a petrol or service station. With many new electric options now built on the 800V architecture, the UK is getting more accustomed to 15 – 20 minutes rapid charging sessions, which has helped build such confidence in proposition and propel the new and used EV to the top of many UK consumer lists.

Having more options with the higher capacity is only an added benefit (so long as the UK’s electric infrastructure can keep up with this). The big pressure is now on Geely to work with UK charge point installers, especially at key motorway service stations, to upgrade to the higher capacity charging points.

The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 5 hour and 45 minutes with the 101 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 31 minutes. The A290 has Bidirectional charging – V2L via a 3.7kW AC Type 2 Adapter and V2H and V2G announced. It has a 144 mpg equivalent, 326L cargo volume and offers towing capacities of 500kg (Braked and Unbraked).The Heat Pump is standard.
