Leasing a SsangYong Korando in the UK

Another South Korean car manufacturer to turn towards electrification – SsangYong – are now looking to wow the UK’s personal and business leasing market with their 4th generation Korando, a mid-size SUV which became available in 2022.

While the SsangYong has been a budget / cheap brand to lease, it is unsurprising that that they are following the success of their national counterparts – Hyundai, Kia and Genesis – who have soon amassed a reputation for build quality, battery efficiency and technical ability. Will, as their website suggests, this strong SUV heritage act as a game-changer in the UK’s fleet market? Through their e-motion options, they really do hope so!

But do SsangYong have good specification? The brand has launched with three different specification options including:

  •  ELX – this includes 17” alloys, auto lights/wipers, LED daytime running lights, leather steering wheel, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, high beam assist cruise control and front vehicle start alert;
  • Ventura – this adds 18” alloys, heated front seats, 10.25” digital cluster, 8” smart audio screen, Apple Carplay & Google Android, front and rear parking system and LED fog lamps; and
  •  Ultimate – upgrades to 19” alloys, leather seats, 8-way adjustable front seats, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, 9” HD screen, TomTom navigation, mood lighting, smart-key system, rear privacy glass and power tailgate.

You can also add a fixed towbar (for £406), a detachable towbar (for £566), 13-pin wiring kit (for £303) and the ECS caravan extension wiring (£189).

But how does the Korando compare to the competition on the battery aspects?

The car will be powered by a 56 kWh usable battery which delivers 140 kW (or 188hp), top speeds of 97mph and 0 – 62mph times of 8.5 seconds. In terms of range, this SUV EV will deliver 155 miles (combined) in colder weather with the warmer weather paving way for 205 miles+ In terms of charging times, the 6.6 kW AC allows for 0 – 100% charging times of 10 hours with the 80 kW DC max enabling rapid charge times of 40 minutes from 10 – 80%.

Can the Korando be a popular salary sacrifice option to select?

One of the biggest growing parts of the UK’s fleet demographics has been with Sal Sac (as it is affectionately known). To avoid confusion, a Salary Sacrifice is an arrangement under which an employee gives up part of their gross salary (before income tax, National Insurance and Health and Social Care Levy) in exchange for a non-cash benefit. In this instance, this will be the electric company car.

Because electric vehicles, like the Korando, are now attracting a 2% BiK (see the e-car lease on-page company car tax calculator), utilising a salary sacrifice option is a tax efficient way to procure a new car because you are using money which you have not paid income tax on (which is particularly useful for 40% taxpayer).

Plus, you can also enjoy the Vat savings your employer can offer. And the car will not appear on your credit profile, as this is leased in the name of the employer. For a customer looking to salary sacrifice the Korando, this will present significant savings compared to a personal contact hire or personal contract purchase arrangement.

Ready to lease the new Korando EV?  Head to our dedicated SsangYong lease deals section and choose the specification which best meets yours, or the company’s, needs and requirements. To get your instant price select the term (2, 3 or 4 years), annual mileage (5,000 – 20,000 per annum), initial rental (deposit) and maintenance provision and our e-car quote calculator will show you a monthly price.

Just select personal for PCH and business for BCH and salary sacrifice. Because our website is dynamic, simply add any options you need and this will amend the price and your company car tax calculation (for business customers only). And the “Living with your...” tools provide you, or the fleet manager, with everything you need to know on the SsangYong BEV – seasonal range, charging times and charging costs are all set out for your review.

As you will note, you can charge your Korando from 0 – 100% for as little £15 (which equates to just 8 pence for every mile). Need more help and advice on your new Korando? Just get in touch with our team on 01942 910 001 or by emailing us at [email protected]

How much is a SsangYong Korando to lease?
Starting from £32,000, the Korando SUV costs around £350 - £500 per month depending on the specification and contract. However, the e-car lease team expect that higher discount levels, and better residual values, should create some cheap deals on the Korando

Is a SsangYong Korando a good car to lease?
This budget SUV gets a 3/5 from WhatCar? 3.7/5 by CarBuyer and 5/10 by TopGear. Because the Korando EV is so new to the UK it is difficult to provide a full review and analysis of just how good the vehicle is. A positive family-friendly SUV, this is likely to provide a wholesome solution for those electric car customers on a budget

Is a SsangYong Korando lease right for me or the business?

What is the range of an Electric SsangYong Korando?
The range of any EV is influenced by several crucial facets – weather, charging habits, driver speeds and driving conditions. In colder climates, a BEV travelling at higher speeds on motorways and with harsher acceleration will not be as efficient as one travelling at lower speeds in a warmer climate. For the Korando, the winter range should be around 125 miles on a motorway and 185 miles in city conditions. The warmer weather should improve this to 160 miles on a motorway and 270 miles for urban driving.

Can you tow with a SsangYong Korando?
Yes - you can add a fixed towbar for just over £400 or a detachable towbar for around £550 directly from the manufacturer.

What is the towing capacity of the SsangYong Korando?
The Korando has a towing capacity of 500kg (unbraked) and 1500kg (braked).

What is the MPG of the SsangYong Korando?
