In a week (beginning 12 October 2026) where the latest in flying electric cars was revealed (yes, seriously!), the team over at Smart reignited an old favourite design in the form of the Smart #2.
While this upcoming city-car did receive some attention, launching your product during a week when Elon Musk brought the Tesla Roadster to life, is a tough ask. As the BBC covered the new Tesla Roadster was revealed at a facility owned by the SpaceX company and in a “this is not AI” moment, went on to showcase the quickest and most adaptable EV to date – the Roadster electric sports car.
While the Roadster has been in planning for many years, this seemed to drop out of favour in light of Musk’s deviation into data centres, AI, robotics and space travel. Many of us were beginning to think that Tesla was becoming bored with electric transportation, especially when the US has been so reticent to adopt this method of transport with the same enthusiasm as the UK and wider Europe.

However, out of nowhere, the new Tesla Roadster appeared in the spectacle conference, and this can now be reserved on the Tesla UK website. With key features including Active Aero, cold-gas thrustors and multi-mode suction system, this is really bringing the next generation of transport to the UK.
Called the true pilot’s car, this Roadster performs at different levels, and in different dimensions, to anything we are yet to see with modern automotive production. With other key aspects like Ano white paint (derived from aerospace), UV and cryogenic protection, gold glazed tinted glass windows, ultrawhite interior with microsuede bolsters, a large touchscreen and two smaller screens and complete mass control via lightweight high-strength materials.

Let’s not forget the rocket, with the Tesla group adding the SpaceX components to transform the car into a flying machine. With advanced cold-gas thrusters, this means all-electric actuators allow for thrust and micro adjustments mid-flight. However, before you get too excited just note the key caveat:
As the BBC article does note, we are still some time away from flying cars in the UK and this maybe a project for our children, or grandchildren, to oversee. But it does show that the boundaries of technology are still being pushed to ensure that our transport solutions keep improving.

In the same week, the Smart group announced their latest urban transportation, as the Smart #2 was formally confirmed. Based on the Smart car from the 2000’s, the 2-seat micro machine, this will see the return of an exciting Urban Hero. The ultra-compact car will offer a 2-seater vehicle combining safety, agility and style.

Specifically designed for those drivers with limited space, city-centre living or maybe even for those without off-road parking, at just 2.746m in length, this could be the perfect answer. With the design underpinned with Mercedes coupled with the Geely battery technology, this is the perfect hybridisation of German engineering and Chinese technology. A perfect synergy.
As per the Smart website you can choose a number of trims including:

All of the options will arrive with the 3-year vehicle warranty, 8-year (or 125,000 mile) battery warranty and 8-year (or 100,000 mile) unique components warranty.
