The move to electrifying the UK is a series of push and pull techniques. By this we mean that UK motorists are being pulled into zero-emission driving through an amazing array of new, and used, electric car deals supplemented by excellent aesthetics, technology and battery capability.
Add to that the cheaper running costs of petrol/diesel vs electric and the lower servicing costs, and you have the ability to convert everyone right? Not so much unfortunately! While amazing new EVs like the SUV ID.Tiguan from the Volkswagen group is a true headturner, not every UK personal or business driver is ready to make the change. But at some point, will all drivers simply not be dictated to?

The push into EVs is happening at a political and economic level too. As our friends over at the EVA have set out for your review there is a detailed roadmap as to what must be achieved and by when.
With each year, there are more stringent expectations on manufacturers to produce a certain percentage of zero-emission product. For this year (2026) the number is 33%. Next year this rises to 38%. However, not all brands are enamoured with this mandate, as you can see in a recent Telegraph article on Adam Wood, the MD of Renault .
The group behind the Renault 5 and the Megane, which have both proved popular, are now expressing concern surrounding the level of uptake and the propensity of the various targets being met.
Expressing concern about discounting, Mr Woods suggests that a more sustainable trajectory needs to be instilled to allow manufacturers the time to create the vehicles which UK customers need and to ensure a more linear connection between the targets and the consumer purchase.
With the ZEV Mandate now under official review, and highly likely to change, some brands may look to alter their desired course for the future of the product.
One brand which has jumped headfirst into EVs is the Volkswagen Group. With their amazing, and popular, ID.4 SUV and ID.5 Coupe coming to an end for production, there were strong rumours that we would at last see an electric Tiguan. True to form of late, the VW design and engineering team have put together the ID.Tiguan, to bring a familiar vehicle to the forefront of the UK car buyer.
No longer are VW pursuing the novelty of "electric cars" they are instead building and offering cars which just happen to be electric. With manual push buttons, conservative appearance and nostalgic interiors, VW are now creating some amazing options to lease - the ID.Polo, ID.Cross and the ID.3 Neo have all been released during 2026.
So new, yet so familiar, the new Tiguan is a versatile SUV with striking design, impressive range and generously spaced for the family. With a modern and intuitive cockpit, there are new dimensions of entertainment and interaction.

Underpinning the Tiguan electric is a “Pure Positive” design which means clear, friendly, and self-assured appearance along with balanced proportions and redesigned front. The interior includes the modern cockpit that we are seeing in all of VW's new vehicles with access to all your information at the touch of the button.
The optional front passenger display provides a dedicated screen for entertainment, apps, games and navigation support. A towbar is available to ensure your family vehicle can tow the caravan or install a bike carrier. Other points to note are the Innovision Pro Max infotainment (with a 15” screen), augmented HUD, wireless phone charging, IDA voice assistant and integrated ChatGPT tech.
The ID.Tiguan will also have some incredible driver assist systems with aspects like the Connected Travel Assist, Adaptive Chassis Control DCC, Side Assist lane change and the Eco Assistance.
As you can see on the VW website there will be 3 key specification options including:

The electric Tiguan is due to go on sale in January 2027, arriving with three different battery options including:
