•  At the end of July 2026 the UK had 122,724 chargers in 47,441 locations
•  At the end of July 2026 the UK had 97,266 devices, with 1,533 added during July
•  The UK has enjoyed a year on year 9.5% growth in the UK charging network
•  Rapid and ultra-rapid chargers are growing and 359 were installed in July
•  The UK now has 29,246 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers which is a year on year growth of 17% 

The old adage that there is an insufficient infrastructure is not really that true in 2026. This is something which is being targeted by the government and local councils in the UK, with a series of investments being made available to help towns and villages modernise their charging experience.

As you can read in  Zapmap  News, Devon and Torbay have just committed to adding 1,300 chargers in the area. While many customers can still charge at home, which is a convenient and cheaper experience, there are still many EV drivers who cannot charge at home.

Or there are drivers who are on holiday or have longer commutes in an electric vehicle. Solutions, in a variety of places (not just motorways / service stations) are needed to give drivers comfort.

With Jeep just updating their Compass electric SUV, the news of increasing charging infrastructure is nothing but good news. With some good reason to go Jeep in 2026, like the true Jeep design, the legendary capability and the functionality and convenience, the added joys of zero-emission is a bonus. As at August 2026, choose from:

•  Altitude – from £36,999 this includes 19” alloys, LED headlamps, automatic high beam lights, powered-folding mirrors, 2-way lumbar support, heated seats, heated steering wheel, navigation, automatic air condition, wireless Apple CarPlay, 10”  digital cluster and 16” central screen, adaptive cruise, land positioning assist, front/rear parking sensors, level 2 autonomous driving, Mode 3 charging cable and passive entry / start;
•  First Edition – from £39,800 this includes 20” alloys, LED matrix lights, 7-slot illuminated grille, privacy glass, rear camera, hands-free tailgate, ambient light with colour personalisation and the additional Mode 2 charging cable; and 
•  Summit – from £40,800 this adds gloss black painted lowers, full vinyl premium seats, powered driver seat, windshield de-icer and two-tone black roof. 

Key colours include Hawaii, Antarctica, Amazonia, Pacific, Yosemite and Vulcano. Key additional options include the Convenience Pack (LED foglamps, hands-free liftgate, wireless charger), Premium Pack (dual-pane sunroof, Focal Premium Audio and Polychromatic ambient lighting) and heat pump.

How does the 2026 Compass Electric SUV perform?

There will be 2 battery configurations including:

•  74 kWh - This will have a 73.7 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 8.5 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 157kW (or 211hp). Expect a combined winter range of 195 miles with warmer weather allowing for 260 miles - a combined 225 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 160 kW DC maximum allowing 36 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 550L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 124 mpg. This EV will not have Bidirectional charging. The car will be able to tow 750kg (Unbraked) and 1230kg (Braked). The heat pump is an additional option with this SUV; and

•  4xe - This will have a 96.1 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 5.4 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 276kW (or 370hp). Expect a combined winter range of 245 miles with warmer weather allowing for 325 miles - a combined 290 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hours and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 160 kW DC maximum allowing 36 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 515L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 122 mpg. This EV will not have Bidirectional charging. The car will be able to tow 750kg (Unbraked) and 1300kg (Braked). The heat pump is an additional option with this SUV.
