EV remains topical on an almost daily basis as the ZEV Mandate continues to overshadow the monthly registrations which the SMMT produce . Every month, the volume of the UK’s car registrations are effectively denoted, setting out the total volume of vehicles and also dissecting the demographics within the total fleet, for example what vehicles are petrol / diesel / plug-in / electric etc.
The notable observation is that the volume of pure electric cars is not getting to the point which the Governmental ZEV Mandate is being wholly adhered to. With this political measure still in its infancy, there are some real targets to be met; 2030 is the year where a minimum of 80% of vehicles must be zero-emission.

With manufacturers being offered “no-option” when it comes to compliance with the ZEV Mandate, aggressive discounting and incentives are being utilised to keep the UK up to date. Some brands and institutions are now asking for the Government to review and re-think the proposition to avoid any further negative impact on the car and van industry.
As shown below, the SMMT have been commenting on the situation via their “Same Destination, Smarter Route” report with some notable observations on the reality of running an electric car economy in 2025:
Porsche, quite topically, are being brought into this conversation, as they prepare to adjust their business direction . As reported, The Guardian are commenting that the German manufacturer is struggling with the rising competition from China, customer obstacles and uncertainty of automotive direction.
A new chief executive is in place at Porsche and it has been confirmed that streamlining, via role adjustments and job losses, will be a key part of the approach to adjust to the pressures. With China reducing their appetite for the Porsche brand (a recent 3% reduction in deliveries has hampered them) the hostile tariffs from Trump’s America are not helping to move metal either.
The 4 Billion Euro write down, which is the result of the EV direction, is not helping company profitability. New electric innovations like the Boxter and the Cayman have been postponed but the Cayenne SUV has at least continued to get investment and innovation.

The truth is that Porsche still have a credible brand following and are still seen as one of the UK’s primary luxury EV suppliers but they are not immune from the marketing conditions and standards which all manufacturers face. This is especially true for a car maker which still insists on launching vehicles with a myriad of specifications, options and battery configurations in excess of what the market demands.
We are perhaps at an era where more product simplification is required and brands which continue to fail to connect to the BEV community are not succeeding quite as much as they should.
The introduction of a 3rd derivative of the Porsche SUV - the Cayenne S Electric - can be found on the Porsche brand’s UK website. Exceptional inside and out, the S combines day to day usability with sports and performance, plus long-distance comfort.
The cockpit experience is sublime, with the largest display area Porsche have produced, along with an interactive Mood Mode and latest generation of seats. The “S” will arrive with a healthy level of standard specification including 20” Cayenne S Aero alloys, Matrix LED lights, comfort seats (8-way electric), multifunction steering wheel, heated steering wheel, sound package plus.

Heated front seats, exterior black mirror package, adaptive air suspension, brake system with red calipers, accent package in black, extended ambient lighting, ParkAssist with 2D surround, lane change assist, lane keeping assist, Porsche entry, climate control, driver memory package, sound package plus, Porsche digital key, navigation and Porsche wireless charging.
In terms of additional options consider surface heating, seat ventilation, SportDesign package, sliding panoramic roof, HD-Matrix LED lights, Sports Chrono package, drive assist, BOSE surround sound and the passenger display. Some of the nicer colours to consider include the Vanadium Grey, Carrara White and Mystic Green. The Cayenne S will start from £99,900.

In terms of batteries and performance, the EV operates per the below:
