A BIG battery revision and upgrade in 2026 for the Skoda Elroq and Skoda Enyaq
The Czech brand, Skoda, has become a firm favourite in the UK’s electric car leasing market. The small and medium SUVs have proved to be our best-seller in 2025 here at e-car lease, with similar feedback from other businesses and dealerships.
With the UK being a hotbed of SUV delas, this is testament to the Skoda group who have, quite interestingly, become more popular than the VW product. Not one to rest on their eminent success, the Skoda team confirmed that from April 2026, their new model year (2027) options would be using the new LFP batteries in their models.
So, what is an LFP battery?
This is a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and this has become the chemical of choice for many of our favourite zero-emission vehicles. Cheaper to produce, although with lower energy density, the LFP (or LiFePO4) battery systems are known for being safe, sustainable and have lower costs.
Also known for their lifespan, it is estimated that the LFP battery can cover some 500,000 – 600,000 miles of driving. The only downside to this battery is their lower energy density, which essentially means they are heavier than other compounds for achieving the same amount of energy.

The LFP battery is well used in the MEB models across the VW group, so the updates on the Elroq and Enyaq for 2026 are not surprising. Along with some other subtle updates, for example android-based infotainment system, updated platforms, a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) functionality which allows you to charge external devices via the charging port / 230-volt socket in the boot, this is a refreshing update.
There will be other changes to the specification and prices across the models too, as Skoda demonstrate their understanding and connection to what electric customers in the UK really need.
