Why the THE EV of 2026 is the new PorscheTurbo Cayenne Electric  

Much of the recent week has been centred around the budget changes and impending adjustments on how EVs will be taxed in the UK, with various news and media outlets delivering different statements and forecasts on how the future for these vehicles will now evolve.

Drivers in Northern Ireland have taken to the BBC to voice further concerns surrounding these rules, especially in the context of cross-border travel. As discussed there are drivers who operate between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with regular crossings most weeks.

For these drivers there are questions surrounding the 3 pence per mile charging structure which arrives in April 2028 - how will this be monitored? How will the EV distinguish between the different borders? Will there be black box technology fitted within the vehicles?

As the EVA in Northern Ireland have commented, there are “more questions than answers” with this new proposal for EV fuel duty creating a hotbed for uncertainty at a time when more confidence is needed to secure faith in BEV as a long-term proposition. As the BBC article notes, many personal and business customers from Northern Ireland will use leasing brokers in Great Britain, like our e-car lease team, to supply their vehicle.

This does make tracking and statistics more difficult to ascertain and yet there are an estimated 50,000 plug-in vehicles in NI. Being a fuel choice in the minority, the EVA wants more clarity on how new measures like this tax will work. With suggestions linked to the MOT process, where annual mileage can be tracked and paid for via the Vehicle Excise Duty system, there are some who do not believe in the efficacy or application of this suggestion.

However, in complete contrast to this story, the new Cayenne Turbo EV is an incredible development for the next generation of vehicles arriving in the UK in 2026. This luxury SUV looks set to lift the standards of vehicle production, with their Turbo model about to offer some of the most profound motoring capabilities of any vehicle available within our market.

One of the key selling points of this car is the new “wireless charge” which now features on this SUV. As the only car manufacturer able to offer this facility, this is a great feather in the cap for the brand, which is going to make its EVs as easy to charge as a mobile phone or toothbrush.

With a floorplate below the front axle of the Cayenne, the vehicle essentially needs to connect this to the electricity supply. To assist the driver, the PCH display uses the Surround View paring function to show the location of the receiver on the front axle and then highlight a green dot for the coil of the charging system.

Once the SUV hovers over the dot, the system’s Keyless Go system can be used to make this process happen. Known as “inductive coupling”, the coils of copper wire are positioned opposite one another to allow the electricity to flow through. Once the vehicle is set to parking, the charging system will begin and up to 11kW of power is wirelessly added into the vehicle.

This means a slightly quicker time to charge than through the standard wallbox, which is a charging power of around 7.4kW AC. Of course, customers will need to go through the time and expense of installing a wireless charging plate but with the brand looking into more development and innovations around the plate, this may be considered a worthwhile endeavour.

The new PorscheTurbo Cayenne does not stop there with its impressive statistics. Towing capacity is something which is being highlighted as an advantage of the electric car transition, with many customers with a caravan or trailer electing to utilise the generous towing capacity.

As you will see on our Vehicle Comparison , which compares the various features of a new car, the Cayenne Turbo is now the leading vehicle for towing with a standard 3000kg (Braked) capacity. Some 500kg beyond vehicles like the Kia EV9, Ioniq 9 and BMW iX, this is some impressive development. If you upgrade your vehicle to the Off-Road package, the towed weight increases to 3500kg (Braked).

While the immense practicality of towing the caravan or trailer might not excite, perhaps the E-Performance will. The new Turbo model will feature a Launch Control configuration and Overboost, which enables 850kW (1156ps) to be achieved and a  0-62mph time of 2.5 seconds. The Cayenne Turbo will become the quickest road legal EV in 2026 with these capabilities!

While all this towing and performance might take a little of your battery efficiency, the worldwide battery guarantee for 8 years (or 100,000 miles) is testament to the German engineering. The brand even guarantees the net battery capacity for 3 years / 38,000 miles, underpinning any battery degradation assertions.

For a battery with a 390kW DC maximum charging power, this is some statement. If you can find an ultra-rapid charging station during your journey, your Cayenne can offer 10 - 80% in as little as 16 minutes! For those with 22kW AC at their work or business premises, do note the 6 hour 0 -100% times too. Have the Porsche engineers really missed anything here? We think not.

The PorscheTurbo Cayenne will arrive (or can be personalised) with some impressive features. Two electric charging points on either side of the vehicle (the DC is located on the left) makes for practical charging and removes the need to alter your parking habits.

Some of the key features include (or can be added) adaptive air suspension, Active Ride (for offsetting longitudinal and lateral forces), real-axle steering, Torque Vectoring Plus (lateral vehicle stability), sports chrono package, track endurance mode and off-road capability (air suspension and increased wading depth).

Exciting new options include surface heating (a thermal comfort system which warms the vehicle quickly and efficiently), AR HUD (augmented HUD for offering driving information onto the windscreen) and automatically opening electric doors (including soft-close functionality).

In terms of the Turbo, the vehicle includes  21” alloys, adaptive sports seats (18-way seats), HD-Matrix LED lights, Bose surround system, Sports Chrono Package, permanent magnet motor, Turbonite features, heated rear seats, power system plus, electric sport sound, carbonite package, GT sports wheel and TPM valve in black. In terms of additional options consider adding the 22” alloys, two-tone leather, seat ventilation, SportDesign package, sliding panoramic roof with variable light control, HD-Matrix LED, thermally and noise insulated glass, heated windscreen, augmented HUD, air quality system, passenger display and Burmester 3D high-end surround sound.

How does the new PorscheTurbo Cayenne perform?

•  Cayenne Turbo Electric - an AWD car, this has a 108.0 kWh usable lithium battery which will deliver 0 – 62 times of 2.5 seconds, 162 mph top speeds and 850 kW (or 1140hp). Expect a combined winter range of 260 miles with warmer weather allowing for 345 miles - a combined 310 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 11 hours and 4 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 390 kW DC maximum allowing 16 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 781L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 122 mpg. This EV will have no Bidirectional charging. The car has a heat pump as standard and the car will be able to tow 750kg (Unbraked) and 3000kg (Braked).
