Guide Revision (16 April 2024) - Due to a legal requirement, the original name for this EV had to change. As per the Stellantis article the plan to use Milano was not possible.  Further to the Italian Government’s intervention, the Alfa Romeo brand elected to amend the name of this vehicle to the Alfa Romeo Junior.

The Telegraph started today (12 April 2024), with some positive news for the electric car market with an announcement that scientists are developing a process to extend the range of vehicle batteries. The solid-state sodium batteries, which would represent a shift from lithium, are alleged to offer higher performance.

And in a solid format, are far less susceptible to ignite when dropped or charged incorrectly. Add to that the increased abundance of sodium and you have the potential for game-changing innovations.

As per the article, the suggestion is that 750-mile ranges together with 10 minute charging times would be a realistic possibility for sodium battery technology. This would be almost double what lithium-ion is currently offering the EV market. While this is still being developed further, particularly as sodium is more difficult to mass-produce, the investment is a clear sign in the future of electric transportation.

Regardless of how we collect, store and apply our energy to our vehicles, we are at least on an agreed path. And this news provides potential customers in the UK with certainty they are moving into the correct fuel type.

Building on this positivity, the Italian luxury and sports car extraordinaires announced that their group would be finally joining the electric car lease market. The Milan group are now using their Stellantis connections to bring BEV technology to their charming and striking vehicles.

The first of the options to be launched in the UK will be the “dare to be electric” Junior . This small - medium SUV will be bringing the distinctive Alfa features and designs which we have all come to admire. The car will be as “stylish as its hometown” with attention to detail and design all high on the agenda.

With exceptional driving dynamics and chassis performance, the actual experience is due to be as passionate as you would expect from a combustion vehicle. And through Level 2 Assisted driving systems and integrated ChatGPT, technology is present with each option.

But what specifications are available with the new Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica?

•  Elettrica - this standard model includes 18” alloys, full LED headlights, climate control and digital 10.25” + 10.25” screen with Alfa connect;
•  Speciale - this model includes 18” alloys, black body-kit and Arese Red details, Spiga interior with electric seats and privacy glass; and

•  Veloce - this model includes 20” alloys, sports suspension and slip differential, black body kit with Arese Red details and Spiga interior with electric seats.

Other options set to be included with the Junior EV include - Technology Pack (for innovation and driving experience like lane centering, adaptive cruise control, parking assistance and blind spot monitoring ), Premium Pack (an interior upgrade to bring elegance to the vehicles) and Sport Pack (to add racing seats and sporty aesthetics).

In terms of battery options, the Alfa Romeo Junior will offer:

• Junior Elettrica - The FWD SUV option will have a 50.8 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds, 93 mph top speeds and 115 kW (or 154 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 165 miles with warmer weather allowing for 225 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 5 hours and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 100 kW DC maximum allowing 26 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 526L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 155 mpg.

•  Junior Elettrica Veloce - The FWD SUV option will have a 50.8 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.0 seconds, 93 mph top speeds and 176 kW (or 236 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 155 miles with warmer weather allowing for 215 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 5 hours and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 100 kW DC maximum allowing 26 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 526L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 155 mpg.
