Today (8 December 2025) proved to be a big announcement for the Mercedes team with yet another refreshed model due in 2026 - the GLB electric. In a turn of events, the German motoring giants are moving away from their EQ line-up and are instead progressing with their previous approach to vehicle labelling via GLB and GLC with EQ technology.
However, before we discuss this new family-friendly EV, it is probably worth mentioning more good news in the news and media. As reported in the BBC Rotherham Council are looking into a 1,500 charge point installation programme, using Government funds to help improve the local vicinity.

With meetings due later this month, a minimum of 500 new charge points will be installed throughout the region on the Public EV Infrastructure Strategy. This is a recognition of the changing volume of cars being registered, with nationwide statistics now at 25% for zero-emission options.
The Council are utilising dedicated parking bays with charging facilities, with some 1,500 planned points over the next 10 - 15 years. The successful LEVI fund from the Government is being used by Councils to help improve the public charging setup for personal and business customers with new and used EVs. As not all customers have off-road parking because they live in terraced properties or flats, more is being done to help prevent charging being an obstacle.
The good news for the people of Great Britain is that the momentum should not be slowing down, with the Government committing to more investment in this area as confirmed in the Government Autumn Budget 2025 . This includes a £100m top-up to the £400m funding invested in the Spending Review of 2025.

There will also be more funding to help with cross-pavement charging in addition to making the planning process much quicker and easier (and cheaper). Access to charging, especially for domestic tariffs and supported EV tariffs, is a key part of the transition.
When you compare the cost of electricity and cost per mile to a traditional petrol or diesel engine, there is no doubt on what solution is best for your finances. The fact that the Government are looking into Energy rates is perhaps a further recognition of the importance of this facet too.
For brands like Mercedes, who are committing millions to the EV transition, having pro-green economies is essential. The upcoming GLB is testament to the further enhancements and innovations being made in the BEV market. “All under one roof” the new electrified GLB is very much the family car of the future with generous cabin capacity, flexible seating arrangements for up to 7 people and smart storage in the boot and the frunk.

The 3rd row can be used for two additional passengers or simply be folded for further storage in the vehicle. Inside, the MBUX super screen combines the passenger and centre screen into one digital cockpit, with technology and apps a-plenty. As set out below, the GLB brings with it some interesting charging abilities and robust ranges, making this a car for all journeys.
While the Mercedes website is still sparse with information there are some key interesting headlines and takeaways on this option. On the exterior, the GLB will continue with a strong boxy appearance, offering an SUV silhouette with sporty design elements like the AMG body styling and alloys.
With high ground clearance, this remains an upright type of car. The illuminated Mercedes pattern on the front coupled with the Mercedes badge make this an unmistakable vehicle with flush door handles and the animated rear strip adding those nice touches.

On the interior, the new GLB offers entertainment, innovations and design. The 14” dedicated display MBUX superscreen offers both the driver and passenger the full digital experience with a two-tiered centre console offering space and utility. Additional options like the illuminated panoramic roof and Burmester 3D surround sound system are underpinned with a whole host of interior finishes and digital narratives, like the Manoeuvring assist, transparent bonnet, Terrain Mode, MB.Drive Parking Assist 360 and Digital Extra Guard 360.
While available to raise your interest, you cannot yet place a confirmed order (at 8 December 2025). However, this is envisaged to be made available in January 2026 with pricing set to start between £49,000 - £58,000 model dependent.
