When you see a news or media story on electric car range, your immediate thoughts are one of "not another misleading analysis". For the last 2 - 3 years, the UK's media have prodded and poked BEVs with reckless abandonment, admonishing them as unfit for purpose, expensive and impractical.
To some degree, in the early days of the transition with technology still developing, some of the early vehicles in the market lacked the proficiency to deliver a robust experience for a long-distance drive or for high-mileage drivers. When you add to this, the slow-growing charging network, you had an easy target for the press. So brands like Cupra would have probably thought twice about bringing an all-electric hot hatch to fruition in 2020 – 2023!

But in 2026, the average Real World Range on the e-car lease website is now an incredible 253 miles. This is based on more realistic metrics, as opposed to WLTP testing. When you consider there are literally hundreds of options which now cover 300 miles of range (on a full charge), or more, much of the arguments against EVs soon dissipate.
In a recent article from The Guardian , a more positive tale about a long-distance Australian traveller makes for some heartening reading. The background - the journalist was new to EVs and had a home with solar and battery storage (perfect) but had not yet utilised battery tech in a vehicle, especially not on a longer journey.
Documenting the fears, concerns and anxiety with longer adventures, the conclusion was essentially one that EVs do go further than you envisage and that the charging process is an easier experience than you would think. This is especially so when other electric car drivers are willing to help, in what is considered a supportive and caring community. The conclusion was that EVs are “Considered. Present. Engaging.”

Understanding true range in 2026 is no longer a troublesome exercise for British EV drivers
Many new, and used, buyers are now considering vehicles in more detail and assessing vehicle suitability. Expert electric businesses like our e-car team, are showing the true performance and ability of the vehicle, with more detail and context. By that, we mean assessments are real-world figures as opposed to factory testing analysis.
We document how EVs operate differently, taking into account external temperature, driver speed and behaviours. In Summer, or warmer climates, an EV is the perfect option for a driver in a town or city. In Winter, or a colder climate, where higher acceleration and speeds are utilised, the range does suffer.
Take the new Cupra Raval for example, with its flagship 52kWh mid-range option. This will offer a UK driver:

As clearly documented, the Raval can offer as little as 145 miles if you are driving aggressively and quickly in a colder climate compared to 315 miles with a gentle stop/start behaviour in warmer and hospitable climates. This is precisely why all UK EV customers should consider the full circumstances before electing to procure their new EV. Education and understanding the product, is key to removing the stress!
One of the hottest propositions of 2026, the new Cupra Raval, is a “rebel in the city” bringing a 100% urban electric car coupled with dynamic design. This EV is all about being a rebellious and emotional icon with poignant EV design.

The flush door handles will light up and extend as you approach, the rear 3D Infinity lights clear a path in the road, the panoramic sunroof brings space and light to the car while the tri-LED Matrix Lights block the glare for other cars but keep the driver’s view absolutely pinpoint. Not unlike the amazing Born hatch, a host of striking wheel and alloy designs are available too.
Inside the Raval enjoy an immersive and interactive interior with customised designs. Similar to the updated Born, this will have some cool features like the dual dynamic door projection, the Smartlight Next Gen technology links the lighting to the car sound, the Sennheiser sound experience brings the 12-speaker immersive audio to the car with the exclusive crafter vegan leather buckets seats offering style.
Seamless integration from tech like the Travel Assist 3.0, predictive adaptive cruise control and Front Traffic Alert allow for more semi-autonomous driving. Emergency Assist means the car will use visual and sound cues to keep you and your passengers safe. In addition, the “My Cupra” APP keeps you physically and emotionally connected to your Raval at all times.
Some of the key colours include the Plasma premium metallic, Manganese Matt, Magnetic Tech metallic, Fiord Blue solid and Glacial White metallic paint. Choose from alloys like the 19” Vandal, 19” Rebel, 19” Maverick or the 18” Defiers. Not too much is known on the exact specifications other than the brief overview below:

The Raval will see the mobile digital key (in Beta format) which is the next evolution of Kessy Advanced. This means you can access, start and control your vehicle via your phone. The Drive Pack allows a customer to include Remote Park Assist, Top View camera and more, to ensure their Raval is the perfect solution. Or benefit from accessories to carry bikes, luggage, surfboards and beyond. All Raval vehicles will come with the 5-year vehicle warranty (or 90,000 miles) for piece of mind.
