The DS N°4 E-Tense Electric Car Lease Deal-Your Definitive Guide

The UK’s new Electric Car Grant (ECG) continues to spark debate, conjecture and now changes as we end the final week of August 2025. Indeed, our digital team at e-car are finding it difficult to update our specific “Electric Car Grants for Lease Vehicles” page as we experience yet another update from the Labour Government.

The ECG has already proved to be an immediate boost to the zero-emission market, with 27 models now benefitting from the Band 2 £1,500 support and 2 models now able to access the Band 1 grant of £3,750.

While the growing number of models enjoying the grant was set to be the biggest news, as we closed Thursday (28 August), a Government update made a significant change on which EVs will qualify for the ECG, which is set to run until March 2029.

The criteria for the ECG was initially set for those vehicles which were priced under £37,000. However, on a detailed analysis of the Government’s plans, they actually confirmed that the price limit was set against the base model within the battery range.

So for example, if you had a Cupra Born V1 59kWh at less than the £37,000, this would benefit from the grant as a Band 1 or 2. However, if a V2 or V3, which are above the £37,000 threshold, shared the same battery then they would also benefit from the ECG too.

This effectively meant that manufacturers could produce cheaper and more basic specifications on a battery in order to bring the car under the £37,000 threshold but then create vehicles well beyond the £37,000 with increased specification and still enjoy the ECG.

As surprised as many of us were, this seemed to be the approach the Government would take. However, just a few weeks into this new programme, the Government have confirmed that a ceiling on the ECG will be applied and the “upper threshold” will be £42,000. In effect, this will still allow manufacturers to produce models with higher equipment on an ECG qualifying battery but they will not be able to exceed the £42,000 limit.

While this amount is probably a little low (£45,000 would have been more fair), with manufacturers needing to recoup investment on their BEV range, it is not surprising given the immediate reactions of many car makers to adjust their product to benefit from the grant.

Introducing the new DS N°4 E-Tense Electric Car Lease

One vehicle, which has only just been launched in August 2025 and has achieved Band 2 ECG status is the new DS No4 E-Tense. DS Automobiles is a luxury part of the Citroen Group and sits within the formidable Stellantis group. With Stellantis currently the best represented car maker in the ECG list, it is good to see yet another innovation benefit from the support.

The new No4 is effectively a re-model of the DS4 Crossover, which the group utilised within the combustion segment of the market. Having launched in early 2021, the DS4 is a more substantial hatchback / crossover, which provides UK leasing customers with a bigger option over the currently popular DS3. Having received a refresh back in May of 2025, the DS group also confirmed that an all-electric option would appear along with the petrol and Plug-In Hybrid option.

Described as a contemporary icon, the cutting-edge technologies and electric acumen are looking to redefine the horizons of mobility. Not only will the car benefit from the group’s updated battery, which enjoyed improved chemistry, 18 modules, increased battery density and an integrated heat pump, this will look to increase driver enjoyment with the 158kW / 213hp motor.

Striking and aerodynamic, the DS4 is looking to bring a degree of intrigue and muscularity with the exterior. Inside, the mix of technology and comfort sits perfectly aligned. With French refinement, the No4 is aiming to bring a degree of elegance and finish to the car which excites both personal and business lease customers alike.
