The Ferrari Luce Electric Car Lease- Your Definitive Guide
Back in 2015, a viral argument erupted over the colour of a dress; or The Dress as it was referred to. Was it a blue dress or was it a gold dress? After substantial arguments, controversy and opinions online (and in homes around the UK ), the world of science said that the dress was indeed blue and black.

While the discrepancy was based on neurodivergences in our brains, something called “colour constancy”, the event proved that certain aspects of our normal everyday lives can invoke passion and discourse beyond what may be reasonably expected.
So when the Ferrari group formally announced their new EV – the Luce – recent emotions have almost certainly replicated the events of “the dress”. Online media, social media and key forums like LinkedIn have become hotbeds for some strong thoughts and analysis on the upcoming luxury EV. With a starting price of around £470,000, you can at least understand why this has proved to be such a catalyst to these strong reactions.

Ferrari are perhaps the most iconic automotive brand in existence, with vehicles that are simply breathtaking feats of engineering. Many young people grow up dreaming of “owning a Ferrari” and use this as a motivator to succeed and grow in their respective careers.
Yes, there are other incredible brands like Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Bugatti, which are no less capable of luxury. However, the Ferrari name is the essence of motorsport and emotion in the car world. So launching an all-electric car was always going to be controversial, especially when other sports car and performance brands have confirmed they will not do the same or who are currently winding-down their operations in the zero-emission segment.
Our preview guide to the Ferrari EV touched on this, with obvious concern that it is difficult to create an EV out of a quintessential petrol product.
But as we have found out this week, the opinions very much came thick and fast. As reported in the BBC and shown below, the confirmation and reveal was so impactive, that the share price in the company dropped at an alarming rate (circa 8%). While this has steadily regained composure this week, the frank response to the Luce was not too dissimilar to responses to Jaguar’s electric concept car of 2024.

Designed by the former Apple design chief, Sir Jony Ive, the new Luce is very different to what we know and love Ferrari for. Indeed, there are probably higher standards and expectations placed on the Italian powerhouse, compared to other brands.
This is what The Guardian touched upon in their reflection. As an aspirational brand we look up to to Ferrari for excitement, aspiration and the unadulterated thrill of precision engineering. The truth is that the underlying concept of EVs, with their cost-effective running costs, zero-emission status and environmental friendliness are probably at odds with this. It just isn’t what they are about and there is nothing wrong with that.

From an e-car lease perspective, having a more glamorous brand put their name to the EV evolution is testament to the importance of the transition. BUT we also respect the need for historic combustion-based icons and we don’t advocate the removal of these solutions from the automotive market.
We can’t have a “stick” market, where combustion is punished to the point where the vehicles cannot be produced, as this only alienates customers and makes for division. Ferrari have not made the mistake of trying to remaster their famous sports cars, like their 849, 296 or the Amalfi.
In their defence, they have created an offshoot brand, like the Purosangue, where an alternative option is being presented to the UK market. Why is the Luce any less “Ferrari” than the Purosangue? The simple answer is that it isn’t. Perhaps launching the Luce EV in a similar Blue as the latest Nissan Leaf was a mistake and has led to some funny memes to say the least. Probably not what Ferrari wanted!
However, amidst the roasting online, the company are not backing out nor are they looking to change their course. The Luce is coming.
Aiming to be uncompromising, engaging and spacious, this new BEV is adopting a radically new architecture which will combine Ferrari performance and luxury of spaciousness and comfort. Designed with clarity and refinement, the new Luce is the new rational Ferrari product based on an all-wheel drive with four doors and five seats.
With hundreds of discrete products and meticulously crafted elements, functional and thrilling are about to be combined in what could be the most controversial EV to ever launch in the UK’s car market.
