This week (6 July 2026) has already started off with a bang, as the Bentley group announce their first electric initiative – the Torcal . While we are going to produce a dedicated guide to the Bentley Torcal EV (which is essentially a Porsche Cayenne Electric), this is big news from a brand which has so far been more anti-EV and reticent to join the green market.
Not unlike Lamborghini, the Bentley group have invested in combustion and plug-in technologies, while waiting for the market to develop further. Having seen the recent furore surrounding Ferrari, and the Luce, it did make you question whether or not other luxury and elite brands would take the plunge into the BEV world and potentially risk their premium product.

However, continued developments like the Torcal SUV, are reminders that the market is still moving and there are still good financial reasons for car makers to produce luxury and / or performance electric cars.
In other news, the SMMT produced their data for the car market and its performance in June 2026. The SMMT have already been outspoken on the state of the UK market, questioning whether or not the stats, up until May 2026, were informing the Government that significant changes were required.
Indeed, the SMMT are just one group who have voiced concern over the ZEV Mandate, believing that this does need to be reviewed in light of market conditions and buying habits. A rumour emerged in June stemming from this suggestion that we could see targets shift from 80% to 50% for zero-emission vehicles being sold in the UK by 2030.

But, nothing has happened to substantiate these rumours. While the SMMT do have strong opinions on the market, their data and analysis is key and serves an important role. For June 2026 there are some good points to consider:

The results are heartening and are very much in line with public opinion and press / media support for new and used electric product. As the SMMT report notes, we are seeing better vehicles, improved tech, economies of scale and consumer confidence now in support of the transition.
But, as their key takeaway, the stats are still falling behind the mandate. That is why the SMMT want reform and review, in order to protect the UK’s market competitiveness for the manufacturers who operate here.
Another brand looking to push their electrified solutions into the UK is the Japanese conglomerate – Honda. While already launching their E NY1 SUV and the hatchback Honda e, the team are looking to add a very different type of car to their product suite.

The new all-electric Super-N is coming; small but “with a big personality”. An irresistible small Japanese Kei car, the new Super-N is aiming to be distinct and different. The signature round LED lights, the bright and bold lights on the rear, the aero ducts and the sharper aggressive lines all add to make this a unique vehicle. Inside, this is a captivating cockpit, with character aplenty.
