The influx of new brands and competition shows no signs of stopping in the UK, as Leapmotor add another product to their repetoire - the B05.
This rear wheel drive hatchback will bring another solution to a busy division of vehicles which includes the VW ID.3 Neo, Cupra Born, Renault Megane EV and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (to name but a few). The B05 provides the UK's leasing market with another option other than their B10 and C10 SUV options.

A collaboration between the Leapmotors and Stellantis groups, this is aiming to bring high levels of EV tech into the cheaper hatch market. But at a time where EVs seem to be riding the crest of a wave when it comes to popularity, recognition and overall appreciation, why not keep new and exciting cars coming?
The whole EV v Petrol debate has really taken a new turn since the Auto Trader report back in April 2026 . In identifying the cost parity between the two options, the belief that electric transport is something for fleet, businesses and salary sacrifice customers only is somewhat untrue.
But with the purchase / lease, there comes about a series of questions and queries as part of the process. For many 1st time to EV drivers, this is expected and is something which should happen to ensure a customer gets the solution they need.

Home charge point solutions are one of the initial considerations which most UK customers have - do I need one? can I drive without one? how much are they? All very relevant and important observations.
The hard truth is, that if you have a home where a charge point can be installed, then yes, get one. However, this isn't always practical or available. For those who dwell in flats, apartments, terraced houses or rental accommodation, the accessibility of a charge point can be restricted
While the Government is undertaking a series of steps to address this in terms of planning, costs and funding, the whole suite of updates and changes are not live. So, does this mean no EVs for those without the home charge point?
Without a home charge point you are reliant on your employer's charging solution or another public network solution. While the fear may creep in at this point, just remember that you have to locate and access a petrol station to fuel your combustion vehicle and we have been doing this successfully for some time.

The charging network has grown considerably in the UK, with both AC (slower charging) and DC (rapid charging) now available. Great apps, like Zap Map, help you locate, access and pay for these charging facilities. If you can regularly access an AC option, this means a cheaper overnight, or extended, charging experience.
The rapid solutions are more readily available, and operate quickly and efficiently, but they are more expensive. For an EV to be "right" this often means the costs being affordable and much of the running costs relate to the cost of charge / electricity.
In theory it is possible to locate and utilise charging solutions outside of your home or away from the employer's premises, if such a charging option is available. However, if you have a home with an off-road parking solution, then a dedicated solution is far more advisable.
Not only is this more convenient, as you can charge overnight, but the cost at home is far more affordable. With dedicated EV tariffs you can effectively fuel your EV at a fraction of the price. Before your new car arrives, it is advisable to speak to a local electrician, many of which now offer installation services, and ask for an audit and quote.
In some cases, your domestic electrics may need adjustment or improvement. In others, this is a simple operation. With plenty of home charger solutions, like Ohme, Pod Point, Anderson EV and Hypervolt, there are installations from around £500 - £1200, plus the actual installation cost. With more EVs on the road, if you are looking to sell your house then this could be a beneficial addition to your home.
In all cases, speak to your leasing broker, supply dealer or used-EV sales person before you proceed. We all have different circumstances and appetites to risks. Make sure you proceed with the best option for you.
For new products like the Leapmotor B05, having a solid foundation in the UK to offer their vehicles is key. This is especially when the B05 is intended to be made available for retail customers on a more restricted budget.

A “Pure Coupe Energy” the B05 is power in perfect balance with a RWD approach, 50:50 weight distribution and thrilling control. With Saber-brow lights, frameless doors and 19” alloys, this is aiming to be a signature vehicle.
While information is scant at the moment, we do know that the new vehicle will feature some exciting features like a panoramic glass roof, 14.6” floating screen and some impressive battery performance. For more information, head to the Leapmotor brand website.
