The BYD group are now a superpower in the world of electric cars. In the last 2 - 3 years, this previously unknown brand in the UK has quickly become a household name for EV and PHEV, amassing serious registrations in the UK for 2025.
Indeed, the group became a top-10 best-seller last year via their growing network of dealerships and leasing brokers. Indeed, competitive brands like Tesla and Polestar are very much feeling the pressure from China, as more manufacturers enter the UK leasing industry.

Names like Chery, Jaecoo, Geely, Leapmotor and Xpeng are growing. However, none of these brands can flourish without the UK’s new and used EV market evolving and improving at a steady and consistent rate, especially as the UK now mandates a certain proportion of zero-emission vehicles to be registered each year under the ZEV Mandate.
News articles, like this one from the BBC on car charging in Dorset might not immediately appear as useful or important within this cultural change. But the news that a £16.5m scheme has been announced to allow for 3,000 on-street car chargers to be installed across Dorset and Bournemouth is actually the type of media and articles we want to see.
This is an initiative between the council and the Government’s LEVI fund. Over the next 5 years, local residents will be provided with access to more on-street solutions, which will be delivered by Connected Kerb. Not all consumers and small businesses are able to access off-street parking and therefore have restrictions on the charging solutions they can utilise. Why is this important you may ask?

This is where education and myth-busting becomes so crucial to the UK’s transition from petrol and diesel into electric. As highlighted in this recent Energy Live News article drivers do need more support and information to understand, and quantify, why an EV is a suitable amenity for their needs and requirements.
Noting some of the misconceptions, the article highlights how only 36% of the surveyed drivers thought an EV would cost less than fuel, more than 35% do not know about electric driving and those in a combustion vehicle are 2.5 times more likely to worry about battery health and degradation. This is why succinct and direct information needs to be presented to any potential new or used EV customer.
For example, it is unequivocal that an electric car is far cheaper to fuel than a petrol or diesel equivalent. This is based on the underlying cost of the charge being an effective price.
As home charging is cheaper than commercial charging, this is where many EV customers enjoy considerable financial benefits and rewards.

With overnight tariffs from electricity enabling some ridiculously low pence per kWh rates, the cost per mile is a fraction of a fuel equivalent. The team at e-car lease set this out for you on every quotation via our dedicated EVC™ certificate.
This is why the new stories from Dorset are so key to the transition, as this is showcasing how local authorities and the Government are helping local people access cheaper charging rates to ensure the EV becomes an affordable proposition for their needs and requirements.
