The EV phenomenon is not just reserved to the UK’s automotive market. Across Europe, the big change to battery electric is very much underway with European countries now equally invested into the process of moving into zero-emission technology.
As reported in Reuters sales of electric cars are now surpassing petrol-only vehicles throughout the EU, as the positive data suggests a shifting change in attitudes to all-electric and plug-in hybrid motoring solutions. Considering that policy makers in the EU have reduced zero-emission expectations on car manufacturers, the continued improvement is very much welcome news and highlights that it isn’t just the UK (or Norway) with their pro-EV strategy which is helping to make the BEV the vehicle of choice.

While the data does suggest that the EU may be some time - up to half of a decade - until EVs do overtake petrol options in their totality, this is still incredible data when you consider 22.6% of the EU market was taken up by a battery electric vehicle.
As we proceed with increasing quality of batteries, vehicles, charging infrastructure and education, the market is beginning to “pull” personal and business customers into the EV market rather than rely on a “push” approach. Threats of fines and or more forcible actions do serve to make customers more resistant, which is not necessary with the improvements we are now enjoying.

With notable improvements in the UK too, the key observations are whether customers are wholly understanding the propositions being presented to them. Two quite notable aspects, which are often queried by potential EV customers, are the references in the vehicle title to:
The “kW” is effectively a direct replacements to ps and bhp, which traditional combustion customers are more accustomed to. Translating directly as Kilowatt, the use of kW is essentially a unit of power and refers to the rate at which energy is either created or utilised.
In more generic terms, we tend to suggest to our electric car customers that anything above 150kW is robust, anything above 300kW is exciting and 400kW (and above) is somewhat raucous! Of course there are vehicle weights and aerodynamics which form part of understanding speed and performance, but the kW can nevertheless be used as a basic understanding.

But do not worry, the team at e-car are always on hand to help you more quickly digest the numeric references which appear on your vehicle. Using our innovative EVC™ on each vehicle, you will see that we provide BOTH a kW and a BHP entry for our leasing customers. Taking the performance Ioniq 6 this as a 478kW which means the vehicle has 650bhp. In short, this is a true racing car!
Likewise, the utilisation of kWh also bring about questions and queries from our lease customers. Some will even confuse this with the kW reference for vehicle power. While kWh, or Kilowatt-Hour, is a unit of energy, this does serve as a nice comparison for engine size on a combustion option.
It also helps electric vehicle customers form a clear opinion on what their vehicle fuel / running costs will be. An EV will have a reference to either the gross battery capacity or the usable battery capacity. It is the latter, the usable battery capacity, which is relevant to our customers.

Firstly, this is a useful numeric value for comparing EVs, especially where you have different battery options within the same derivative. For example the Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers a 77kWh and 84kWh battery option. Generally, the bigger the battery capacity, the further the range and the better the performance. While not a hard and fast rule, it is often the case.
Secondly, the kWh on a battery helps a customer understand the cost of the EV. Taking the Ioniq 6 N, this can be fully-charged from 0 - 100% at home on a standard tariff for around £20 (based on the 25 pence per kWh unit) and this means each mile you drive is costing about 7.62 pence (because the real world range is circa 270 miles). When making a comparison between costs for petrol/diesel vs electric, this information is essential.
The all-new Ioniq 6 N, which you can now build on the Hyundai website, promises more than just electric cost-savings; this is a true performance E with character and spirit. A “paradigm” for performance EVs, the new Ioniq 6 uses high-performance electric technology, a dual motor system and coercive forces via the permanent magnets.

The N battery management system focuses the car on ensuring temperature remains optimal, redesigned suspension (with ECS) ensures a firm grip on the road surface coupled with a wide range of damping forces. Beyond the track-ready mechanical details, the 6 N EV utilises technology to ensure that you have an immersive experience and the comfort / performance which more discerning customers now expect.
This includes elements like the lowered roll centre with detailed geometry, precise stroke sensors on the suspension, a rear stiff bar for strengthening the undercarriage and PE system focused on electrified responses. Exciting features like the N Active Sounds, N-shift and N Ambient Shift Light are amazing driver focused details for the road. The N Grin Boost, N Track Manager and N Brake Regen are built for your track days. Even the interior action camera motoring is testament to what Hyundai are aiming for with this thrilling vehicle.

The key details include heated windscreen, privacy glass, luminous brake callipers, acoustic glass, smart regenerative braking, high performance dampers, electronic suspension, wireless phone charging, N Drift optimiser, OTA, front/rear parking sensors, lane follow assist, lane keep assist.
Parking collision avoidance, surround view monitor, remote smart park assist, power assisted steering, electric tailgate, 12” driver cluster, 12” touchscreen, HUD, digital clock, electric adjustable/heated/folding door mirrors, battery heating with preconditioning system, Bose premium audio, N metal kickplate, exterior door handles - auto flush, LED matrix headlamps, LED taillights, auto headlights, heat pump, climate control, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats, digital and smart key, 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, 20” alloys and Pirelli tyres, interior and exterior load to socket.

Key colours include Nocturne Grey, Abyss Black, Performance Blue, Serenity White and Gravity Gold.
The AWD saloon option will have a 80kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 3.2 seconds, 162 mph top speeds and 478 kW (or 641hp). Expect a cold weather range of around 230 miles with warmer weather allowing for 310 miles – a combined range of around 270 miles on a full charge.

On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 263 kW DC maximum allowing 17 minute 10 – 80% times. This has a fuel equivalent of 135mpg. A cargo volume of 371L is available with this car. This will have Bidirectional charging capabilities via the V2L on an exterior and interior outlet. The heat pump is standard.
