The new Renault 4 Electric Car Lease-Your Definitive Guide
In a different turn of events today (28 October) many of us involved in the motor finance industry have been alerted to a seismic decision by The Court of Appeal - in which commission payable to a 3rd party, like a car dealership or broker, has been challenged. In particular, there was a recognition that more could have been done for the consumers in this test case, with the court setting out:
“even if the lender did not pay a secret commission, the brokers never obtained the claimants’ fully informed consent to the payment. Although the credit agreement indicated that commission might be paid, the claimants were not told that it would be, nor the amount nor any other material facts about the commission.”
An insight into Commission payments when Leasing an EV
In the car leasing industry, the majority of transactions are carried out by contract hire and leasing brokers (like us at e-car), which essentially means that our businesses act as an intermediary between the customer and the finance company / supplying dealership.
We are not the lender, in that we do not use our own resources to fund and finance a vehicle, nor do many of us have a workshop to PDI and deliver your vehicles. But that doesn’t mean that we are not intrinsic to the process, with the Court describing this as a “fiduciary duty” to our customers. Every broker will operate according to their own needs and requirements, coupled together with the needs of their customers. However, our approach to our electric car customers is fairly robust yet simple, with all aspects of the transaction detailed and communicated accordingly as noted below:
We expect great EVs, like the Renault 4 to be a massive part of the UK’s electric vehicle transition. This crossover / SUV option will be based on the same platform as the upcoming Renault 5 e-Tech, albeit in a more spacious format. Indeed the group have confirmed that the Renault 4 will be Captur equivalent to the Clio when comparing this to the new 5 hatchback.
While the Renault 4 was a historic icon for the French group in the 1960’s through to the 1990’s, this E-Tech is very much an all-electric facet. Having been previewed in 2022, the car will now be going into production in 2025. The big release at the Paris Motorshow in October 2024 has given confidence that this will deliver the “liberte 4 ever” which the brand asserts.
Some of the key aspects to the new Renault 4 include the signature front grille (reminiscent of the predecessor), the 3-part LED lights, sculpted door sills and side protection plus a distinctive roof embellishment. Underlying the 4 SUV is the modular space arrangement which is designed to suit the modern family lifestyle.
A 40/60 seat which can fold (almost flat) allows for 2.20m of loading length, together with a plein sud canvas roof. With a touch of a button, the electric roof will fold completely on itself. The 18cm of ground clearance is what really differentiates this from hatchbacks like the Renault 5, together with traction control and 18” wheels. However, make the new Renault 4 your own with at least 7 colours along with the two-tone black roof configuration.
Specification is yet to be fully confirmed but the team have confirmed that 2 x 10” dashboards / screens will be featuring in the cockpit. The openR link multimedia system is fully configurable for your requirements for a wholly digital experience.
Google maps for real time navigation (including Waze), voice commands, ChatGPT will be supported with intelligent adaptive cruise control, active driver assist, active emergency braking, hands free parking and emergency trajectory correction.
In-line with the growing requirement for our EVs to be intuitive and efficient, the Renault team will ensure that your Renault 4 can be charged via the customers “My Renault” app with this also enabling battery pre-conditioning and vehicle temperature control. Following on from the Renault 5, the new SUV will also feature bidirectional charging with the V2L allowing your car to charge external electric applications like camping equipment, bikes or computers.
While you cannot yet configure your new 4 E-tech on the Renault website there is confirmation of two battery options which will mirror what the 5 hatchback offers including:
