But the German engineers are not done yet with their innovations in the EV world; the group formally announced yesterday (12 March 2024) that an elite performance option would also be made available in addition to the standard / 4S / Turbo / Turbo S product line-up. Also live on the Porsche website are two new track options including - the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Turbo GT with Weissach Package.

So what is the all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo GT all about?

Dating back 10 - 15 years, the impression of BEVs and lithium-ion technology was one of boring and placid vehicles, with little taste, character or thrill.

But what is the Weissach Package option?

This is very much a track specialist option which reduces the weight by 70kg through the removal of the rear seats. Other weight cutting measures have been taken via the removal of the Sport Chrono pack, removal of the mats and other insulating materials. Key features include the special pulse inverter, Aero package (for greater downforce), Attack Mode, Dynamic Package (active chassis system and performance tyres) and aluminium components to replace the steel elements.

And how do the new GT Taycan options perform?

The two models offer:

• Taycan Saloon Turbo GT –  From £186,000 this AWD will have a 97 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 2.3 seconds, 180 mph top speeds and 760 kW (or 1019hp). Expect a combined winter range of 250 miles with warmer weather allowing for 335 miles – 295 miles combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 30 mins 0 – 100% charging times with the 320 kW DC maximum allowing 19 minute 10 – 80% times. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 123mpg. You cannot tow with this EV. It also has no Bidirectional charging capabilities.
