Not every manufacturer is up to date on their EV targets. Nor are they producing a suite of vehicles which will be ready for the Government’s all-electric ambitions for 2030 and beyond under the ZEV Mandate. Only this week (18 March 2024) Bentley confirmed that there would be no impending rush for the brand to move on EV production.

As reported in the Times , the Crewe-based luxury carmaker is still accelerating the introduction of PHEV technologies but would not be pushing towards all-electric infrastructure with quite the same haste. While the company had previously suggested that the Bentley fleet would be moving to an all-electric 2030, it appears that uncertainty for luxury EVs is decelerating this purported ambition.

But that is not to say that Bentley will not be populating the e-car lease website with a litany of deals. There will be considered investment and product on route; just not at the speed we would have hoped for in the UK’s leasing industry. Much will be learned from the more recently launched Rolls Royce Spectre electric.

But one such manufacturer which cannot be accused of EV reticence or lack of committal is the French manufacturer - Peugeot. Forming part of the Stellantis automotive conglomerate has definite advantages, with economies of scale for R & D and battery production all correct and present.

Already we have the 208, 2008, 308, 3008 plus the Rifter / Traveller on the e-car website for personal and business customers to enjoy. However, where there is a noticeable shortage of product in the UK is with the 7 seater family segment. In terms of car options, customers can only choose from:

•  Mercedes EQB
• Mercedes EQS SUV
•  Tesla Model X; and
•  Volvo EX90 

Contrary to popular opinion, the ID Buzz is not yet 7 seats. However, a new long wheelbase version with a 86kWh battery is on route in 2024/2025. This will see a 4Motion 7 seat MPV EV arrive in the UK to support the product above. But family and functionality is very much in the minds of the Peugeot engineers, who have added batteries to the existing popular 5008 7-seater. The “next-generation” dynamic SUV will be arriving in two specification formats including:

•  Allure - this will include key features like the 21” HD curved driver display, x2 10” digital panels, HD reversing camera, rear parking assistance, Open and Go keyless entry, climate control and 19” alloys. Other features include Drive Assist Plus, adaptive cruise control, lane change, speed recommendations and comfort seats; and
•  GT - 20” alloys, PIXEL Led headlights, electric tailgate, black diamond roof (colour contrast), Alcantara upholstery plus  heated and massaging fronts seats. Also enjoy tri-zone climate control, 8-colour ambient lighting, large panoramic sunroof, multi-function steering wheel and i-Toggles for the driver.

Both options will be available in 6 different colours including Pearl black, Artense silver, Obsession and Ingaro blue, grey and Okenite white. Two-tone paint is bespoke to the GT model only. Other upgrades include the VisioPark 360 degree system which adds 4 cameras and 12 sensors to assist the driver parking the car

And how does the new Peugeot E-5008 7-seat perform? Which battery configuration should we choose?

So far three options have been confirmed including:

• Standard - this FWD SUV will have a 73 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.0 seconds, 106mph top speeds and 157kW (or 211hp). Expect a combined winter range of 195 miles with warmer weather allowing for 260 miles – a 230 mile combined.On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 160 kW DC maximum allowing 36 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 748L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 127 mpg. You can tow with this EV –1000kg (Braked). It also has Bidirectional charging facilities - a  V2L (Vehicle to Load) which is the exterior Type 2 adapter, capable of up to 3.6kW AC. The Heat Pump is standard with this EV;

•  Long Range - this dual-motor AWD SUV will have a 73 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 6.0 seconds, 106mph top speeds and 240kW (or 322hp). Expect a combined winter range of 195 miles with warmer weather allowing for 255 miles – a 225 mile combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 8 hour 0 – 100% charging times with the 160 kW DC maximum allowing 36 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 748L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 125 mpg. You can tow with this EV. It also has Bidirectional charging facilities - a  V2L (Vehicle to Load) which is the exterior Type 2 adapter, capable of up to 3.6kW AC. The Heat Pump is standard with this EV; and
•  Long Range Big Battery - this FWD SUV will have a 98 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.7 seconds, 106mph top speeds and 170kW (or 228hp). Expect a combined winter range of 260miles with warmer weather allowing for 345 miles – a 305 mile combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 160 kW DC maximum allowing 32 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 748L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 126 mpg. You can tow with this EV. It also has Bidirectional charging facilities - a  V2L (Vehicle to Load) which is the exterior Type 2 adapter, capable of up to 3.6kW AC. The Heat Pump is standard with this EV.
