Stellantis are back in the news with some more fresh-face SUVs for the UK’s electric car market. And this is a key announcement at the moment, with the news and media continuing to peddle the anti-EV agenda.
Only today when you search electric car news, you will see a litany of headlines like “The electric vehicle revolution is running out of steam” and “Volkswagen electric car sales plunge …” For the UK’s personal and business leasing market this creates concern and confusion, with some customers feeling reticent to make the transition to an EV and instead stay in a combustion or plug-in option.
However, what we do stress at e-car is that the foremost finance option we offer at e-car lease is contract hire. This is a usership / rental style product which does not have an obligation to own at contract cessation. Some of the headlines relate to uncertain residual values, negative equity and manufacturers changing discount levels which is making new and used EV ownership difficult.
However, with contract hire (leasing) we explain that this is not something the lessee / driver has to contend with, as this is down to the finance company to manage. We simply use the customer’s requirements to organise a contract which meets their needs and requirements. We therefore need:
So as noted above, the potential pitfalls or hidden costs associated with EVs, as propagated by the press, can be easily remedied though a robust contract. And this doesn’t take into account elements like charge point integration (which some brands can offer at a subsidised rate or for free) and charging tariffs which allow for enhanced overnight tariffs.
This actually makes the cost of fuelling your EV cheaper than a petrol or diesel equivalent. The whole of life costs exercise, which explores the full cost of operating a combustion vs an electric, is now crucial to making an informed decision. And this prevents hysteria and misleading media articles which do nothing other than to upset potential EV lease customers.
So if the Frontera EV from Vauxhall is your perfect lease, what do you need to know? As per the Vauxhall website - the new larger SUV will be orderable soon. On the outside, the brand are using sharp and aggressive style, with a focus on ruggedness and authenticity.
This includes key features like the black vizor grille, Vauxhall wing-signatures and distinctive signatures. On the inside, the Pure Panels includes two 10” displays, smartphone / app integrations, Intelli-Seat features and a series of USB points for device charging. Practicality is not absent with the Frontera EV; some 460 litres of luggage space and up to 1,600 with the seats folded down! To be clear, Vauxhall will be producing the Mokka still, so the Frontera will be a bigger all-electric option to enjoy.
And how will the electric Frontera perform? The FWD SUV option will have a 44 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 11.0 seconds, 84 mph top speeds and 83 kW (or 111 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 135 miles with warmer weather allowing for 190 miles.
On charging, the 7.4 kW AC max will allow 7 hours 0 – 100% charging times with the 100 kW DC maximum allowing 32 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 460L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 152 mpg. This option can tow 500kg (unbraked) and 500kg (braked).
