The Volvo ES90 Electric Car Lease - Your Definitive Guide
The big news this week (March 2025) is that the UK has surpassed 75,000 charge points, with the latest data from our Zap Map partners showcasing that the UK reached some 75,675 charge points by the end of Feb.
As their research shows, we have enjoyed a 32% increase in charge point installations, with some 57,290 points in the UK for the same time last year. The magic 75,000th point was an ultra-rapid Ionity point at the Village Hotel in Bristol. But is it not just the volume of public charge points in over 38,000 locations which is heartening news.
The speed of charge points is now also increasing, with an increase in the number of ultra-rapid points now present in the UK. Defined as a charge point which has a capability of 150kW+ these are now a firm focus for those high-mileage customers needing a quick top-up or are used by those customers without access to regular charging at home / work.
The key takeaway is that 321 ultra-rapid chargers have been added in January and February 2025. At the end of Feb this means some 15,000 rapid and ultra-rapid charge points are now present in the UK.
Pushing this whole project further are key funding schemes, like the recent in the Midlands which the BBC reported on . Some £40m has been distributed between 13 of the councils to help install EV charge points for the local constituents, with a clear focus on those customers who lack off-street facilities.
An estimated 16,000 new points are going to be made available under the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund, which are all part of the Government’s initiatives to help move the UK closer to the ZEV Mandate ambitions.
Each area within the Midlands, including Derby, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland will benefit from varying degrees of investment. The underlying theme across many of these councils is centred around accessibility and convenience for those drivers moving into all-electric transport.
With new, and exciting, long-range models like the premium ES90 electric from Volvo, is it a case of range or charge points which is most crucial to the UK driver? One of the big obstacles to the uptake of battery technology has been the issue of range; many drivers are used to the 350 - 500 mile capability of their petrol and diesel cars.
So when mass-adoption began, much of the kickback seemed to stem around vehicles which had smaller batteries with nominal capabilities of 100 miles or lower. But as we have progressed from 2020 through to 2025, the volume of vehicles with a range of over 200 miles or even 250 miles has dramatically increased.
You only have to review our “Longest Range Electric Range” guide to understand just how many vehicles are capable of some extraordinary distances. However, as more drivers are becoming familiar with the nuances of driving and charging, there has been a noticeable cutback in concerns. Part of this is down to the fact that many UK customers have charging facilities at home, and this covers their regular weekly driving.
With more employers having onsite options to charge, the fear of absence of charge is more diminished. Plus, with the increased charging options at service stations, service markets and key leisure / shopping centres, as discussed above, the increasing ease to fuel your EV is diminishing the range concerns.
The new Volvo ES90 is almost certainty the car to choose if range, and luxury, is high on your agenda. Defined as “A room to relax in. A journey to pack in. Range to take you further …” The latest all-electric Volvo has the look and feel of a more aggressive and sporty S90, so this will be taking on fan favourites like the BMW i5, Mercedes EQE saloon and VW ID.7. With references to aerodynamic lines, commanding wheels and a spacious boot, the technology driven executive car is looking to push boundaries. What options are available:
