The continued conflict in Iran is still having a big impact on EVs, with many news and media outlets reporting on the Chinese push to electrify the world (like this article from the BBC and the cost of oil pushing more customers into electric solutions (as reported in the Telegraph ).
The EV uptake in the UK automotive industry is a mixture of push and pull factors, with financial incentives, zero-emission charging zones, company car tax and leasing prices all encouraging more UK drivers to think carefully. But rising petrol and diesel prices, which we have reviewed and discussed, are now having a critical impact on the perception of electric transport.

No longer is it being viewed as an expense or luxury; customers are realising that this offers a more practical and cost-effective solution. In many cases, especially low-mileage lease customers, they can save hundreds of pounds on fuel costs. In today’s world, that represents a good saving.
We at e-car lease have really felt this with our used electric leasing programme, which we deliver via our CarLease UK partners , whereby more personal and retail customers are enquiring with us. The pre-conception of battery health failing and EVs not being a long-term solution have all but dissipated, with most battery options standing the test of time. New cars are also benefitting from the resounding enthusiasm for electric transport. Manufacturers like VW are experiencing more confidence and support to produce great products for the UK leasing market.
Having just announced their new VW ID3 Neo , another new EV product will arrive in the form of the electrified Polo. The product will start life in July 2026 as the ID.Polo and is very much the small city-car which the younger generation was waiting for.

Loaded with extras, the Polo EV will aim to bring a compact vehicle with more than just cost-effectiveness and practicality. The new Polo will be clear in design, offer impressive comfort and offer the quick and responsive drive you need from the vehicle.
Key features will include the Connected travel Assist, Park assist Pro, 441L of boot space, illuminated VW logos, IQ.Light (LED matrix), choice of alloys up to 19”, digital displays in the form of a 10.25” digital cockpit and the 12.9” infotainment system, heated seats, practical USB ports, heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, optional heat pump.
Adaptive cruise control, side assist lane change with rear traffic alert, eco assistance, digital key and the optional Innovision Pro system. BUT the Polo will feature more physical buttons on many of the functions. This is a a big part of the VW EV strategy, as it looks to reduce some of the complications with electric motoring.
This is a great-looking car and one which returns VW back to the more clinical and historically similar type of vehicles. A small, but practical, electric car from VW, this will be based on the MEB+ dedicated electric platform. You can use the digital overview on the VW website to discover more or register your personal / business details with VW to be informed when it is going live. The Polo is due to start at around £30,000 when it launches July 2026 in the UK.
