Leasing a Mercedes EQC in the UK

The original electric innovation (or “EQ”) from the Mercedes group, and one of the UK’s leading electric SUVs, is the EQC. Launched in 2019, the EQC was effectively a replica of their GLC platform which existed in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid formats.

Like Audi, with their equally important luxury SUV, the e-tron, Merc launched their EQC to compete with growth in popularity of Tesla who were winning many UK customers over with their Tesla Model S and Model X. Not to mention the Jaguar i-Pace, which was also stealing much of the attention in the world of fully electric automotives. And the EQC did not disappoint and even in 2022 (and beyond) this remains as one of the most sought-after family-sized SUV EVs for both personal and business leasing customers

But which EQC is the best?

While Mercedes only offer one battery option with their EQC (an 80 kWh lithium-ion configuration), UK customers are blessed with some great specifications to choose from including:

  • Sport – 19” alloy wheels, front and rear LED light band, keyless-go comfort package, mirror package, multibeam LED headlamps, privacy glass, heated seats, seat comfort package, 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, parking package (with reversing camera) and the MBUX multimedia system;
  • AMG Line – a near £2000 upgrade, this adds 20” AMG alloy wheels, running boards, AMG-specific radiator grille and rear apron, AMG sports seats and a sports steering wheel;
  • AMG Line Premium – at just over £4500 above the AMG this adds 21” multi-spoke alloys, electric sliding sunroof, smartphone integration and air-balance;
  • AMG Line Premium Plus – a further £2,250 above the Premium, this top-spec model offers upgraded 21” alloys, parking package with 360-degree camera, head-up display, MBUX interior assistant and the memory package for 12-way adjustable seats.

Choosing your perfect EQC as your next new car for the family, or as a company or salary sacrifice scheme, is often a case of budgets and requirements. With contract hire, or leasing as the e-car lease team call it, you have the opportunity to use the vehicle for a set term (2, 3 or 4 years) based on your annual mileage (5,000 – 20,000) and with an initial rental (or deposit) of your choosing. But is leasing better than buying with an EQC? Whether or not you should buy, or PCP, this fully-electric 4x4 is very much based on what you want as a customer.

With leasing there are no depreciation concerns and for companies (and their drivers) this represents a tax efficient way to operate a new car – particualy with the low company car tax exposure on the EQC. However, we understand that as EVs can last longer than their combustion equivalents, some customers do want to enjoy their car for longer than 4 years. And who can blame them when you have quality product like the EQC available to purchase or PCP.

But is the EQC a good electric car?

As the earliest product to launch, it would not be too unkind to suggest that EVs have very much evolved since the EQC  - Mercedes now have SUVs, saloons, people-carriers and vans in electric format! Indeed, Mercedes have some of the most electric vehicles to choose from in comparison to other manufacturers. In terms of electric performance, the 300 kW (or 402 hp) motor will deliver 0 - 62 times of 5.1 seconds and top speeds of 112mph.

And how quick can EQC charge we hear you ask? When looking at charging rates, you need to separate AC and DC, with the former applying to home and workplace infrastructure whereas the latter refers to charging while using public networks like service stations. In relation to this Mercedes BEV, the car can charge at a max 11 kW AC for just under 9 hour 0 – 100% charge times and will rapid charge at 112 kW DC, for 35 minute 10 – 80% times. While we expand on range below, expect the EQC to deliver 195 miles range in colder temperatures on a full charge and around 260 miles in warmer climates

How much is a Mercedes EQC Electric to lease?
The EQC is very much a luxury electric car and so many of our customers are those individuals with a bigger monthly budget or for management / director company car or salary sacrifice schemes. Starting at £70,000, expect to pay around £700 - £1000 model and contract dependent. However, for customers looking at the BMW iX3, Jaguar i-Pace or even a higher specification VW ID.5 or Volvo XC40, this makes a good comparison.

Is a Mercedes EQC Electric a good car to lease?
Where Mercedes are flourishing is with their choice for customers and the constant revision and evolution of their existing EQ platforms – a bigger EQS SUV (which is more akin to a GL/GLS) was launched in April 2022, only months after the EQS saloon was launched. For EV customers this provides the utmost confidence that they are leasing, or buying, from a manufacturer who is firmly invested in the EV-lifestyle. And who can dislike the ostentatious interiors, and technological gems, which are present with all the EQ product.

Is a Mercedes EQC electric lease right for me or the business?
Whether a personal, business or salary sacrifice customer, our e-car lease team do encourage you to review the key metrics and facets of automotive electrification. Even with beautiful cars like the EQC, there are still some essential facts to know – seasonal range, charging speeds, charging times, charging infrastructure – before leasing a car. With our finance products being fixed term contracts, there are penalties and costs associated with early returns. This is why we stress suitability assessments before progressing

Where do I find the best Mercedes EQC lease deals in the UK?
The best e-car lease Mercedes EQC deals will often feature on our aggregator partner platforms like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher and LeaseLoco. However, not all of our offers will be uploaded, so do head to our website to compare and price ALL the EQCs available in the UK. Also visit your local Merc EQ retailer to test-drive and experience the EQC in real life. And for those customers looking to compare lease v buy with the EQC, ask your Mercedes dealership for their PCP or Hire Purchase quote.

What is the Cheapest Mercedes EQC Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (April 2022) the cheapest EQC to lease is the ESTATE EQC 400 300kW Sport 80kWh 5dr Auto. However, at £70,000 this is still not what we would refer to as a “cheap car to lease”. While EQCs deliver an indulgent experience, there is a cost associated with them. Also consider that the AMG Line is not a big cost increase from the Sport, particularly with residual values via our selected funders, so do compare the various options.

What is the range of an electric Mercedes EQC?
The range your EQC can travel on a full charge will be highly influential on your decision to lease it. However, as set out via our industry leading “Living with your …” tools there is a big difference with how the EQC performs in colder weather v warmer weather and on smaller journeys / urban driving compared to motorways / highways. For example, the EQC will provide 165 miles of driving on a motorway in cold weather compared to 330 miles of city driving in warm weather. While the “real range” of the EQC is around 230 miles, use our tools to work out how this works in conjunction with your commute or daily trips.

What is the towing capacity of the EQC? Can you tow?
Many of our EQC customers are avid caravaners or are businesses who need towing capabilities with their new EV. While some electric cars can tow (it is not true that EVs are not suitable for towing), we do advise that you check the manufacturer websites or visit your local dealer. For the EQC a tow hitch is possible (subject to a cost) and the vehicle has towing weight (unbraked) at 750kg and towing weight (braked) at 1800kg

What is the MPG of the Mercedes EQC?
This has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 116mpg
