BYD ATTO 3 Electric Leasing

Leasing a BYD ATTO 3 Electric in the UK

The new BYD Yuan, or ATTO 3 as it is known in European markets, is the latest small SUV (subcompact SUV) to enter the UK’s personal, business and salary sacrifice leasing market – officially launching in March 2023. So, what is this new EV and what should I compare it against? The ATTO 3 is the first European model which the BYD company, or Build Your Dreams, are utilising to showcase their pure electric capabilities.

To provide some assurance, this car originally went into production in 2016 for Chinese customers. While historically a mix of combustion, hybrid and electric, the 2021 facelift – known as the Yuan Plus – was equipped in electric format only, with upgraded EV platforms and technology. Drivers need to compare the ATTO 3 against the Kia Niro EV, the MG ZS, Citroen e-C4 and Renault Megane E-Tech.

But how does the electric BYD SUV perform? Is it fast? What is the range?

Starting from around £36,490 this option will have a usable 60 kWh lithium-ion battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.3 seconds, 99 mph top speeds and 150 kW (or 201hp). And the drivetrain will be FWD. Expect a combined winter range of 170 miles with warmer weather allowing for 225 miles on a full charge.

On charging, the 7.4 kW AC max will allow 9 hour and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 88 kW DC maximum allowing 44 minute 10 – 80% times. An upgraded 11kW AC function allows 6 hour and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times. This pro-family car has a reasonable cargo volume of 440L and a vehicle fuel equivalent of 135 mpg.

And what specifications will the ATTO 3 have?

To maintain simplicity in the UK market, just three key models have been announced with almost identical specification save for a few battery or technology upgrades (bear in mind that the BYD SUV is centred around cost-effectiveness and cheap leasing deals):

  •  Active – from £36,490 the entry model is available in Surfing Blue, Parkour Red, Climbing Grey, Skiing White and Exploring Green with just the Blue and Grey Interior to choose and 18” alloy wheels. As standard this includes panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, electrically folding and heated mirrors, vegan leather upholstery, heated front seats, LED interior lights, ambient lighting on door panel and pad, PM 2.5 interior air filter, 5” full LCD instrument panel, smartphone wireless charging, 12.8” rotary screen, Blind Spot Detection, Hill Descent Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Land Change Assist, Front and Rear Parking Radar, heat pump, keyless entry and start plus a Mode 2 charging cable and Model 3 (1 Phase);
  •  Comfort – from £36,990 this model upgrades the AC to 11 kW for quicker charging times plus it adds the Model 3 (3 Phase) charging cable; and
  •  Design – from £38,990 this top of the line model upgrades the AC to 11 kW for quicker charging times plus adds the Model 3 (3 Phase) charging cable. In addition, the Design ATTO will add an electric tailgate, PM 2.5 interior air purification filter and a 15.6” rotary screen plus velour floor mats and a trunk mat.

The big opportunity for BYD is in the consumer and salary sacrifice markets, where cheap EV leasing is more urgently needed for 2023 and beyond. The reality is that most pure electric options are priced well beyond £40,000 making this a truly unaffordable mode of transport for many customers.

In the retail / personal lease segment, the taxation benefits which companies enjoy are not passed across and with EVs costing more than like for like models coupled with nominal Whole of Life cost savings, it can be more difficult to encourage a transition. But where certain manufacturers, like MG, have excelled is in delivering these £25,000 - £35,000 electric car options. For conscientious low-mileage customers, these are the perfect car.

How much is a BYD ATTO 3 Electric to lease?
The Chinese brand are aiming to be a cost-effective and affordable electric car proposition in the UK’s leasing market, with prices of around £36,000 to £39,000. This should translate to lease deals of around £300 - £500 per month subject to term, annual mileage, initial rental and maintenance requirements. Expect this to be a key seller for consumers and salary sacrifice customers.

Is a BYD ATTO 3 Electric a good car to lease?
The BYD comes with a robust heritage in the electric car world, with a long history of electric car, battery and energy propositions. They are very much a tried and tested product. A pure electric start-up this is not, with millions of vehicles already sold in China and India (where it is the 2nd biggest EV company after Tata). Along with Xpeng and Nio, this represents a new breed of competition for the traditional European conglomerates.

Is a BYD ATTO 3 lease right for me or the business?
Product suitability for our team is crucial to our ethics, standards and Consumer Duty principles. Understanding the contract hire finance product (a fixed term usership agreement based around your term, mileage, initial rental and maintenance requirements) and the asset (a pure electric battery powered vehicle) is crucial. All of this key information is comprehensively set out on our amazing EV-only website.
