Leasing a Ford Puma Electric in the UK

The Ford group were busy in the UK media in 2024; much of which was around the ZEV Mandate and the legal (and political) obligation to move the cars that manufacturers produce from petrol and diesel towards all-electric battery formats.

Plant closures and direct feedback to the government may lead you to believe that Ford were going to back away from their commitments. But in December 2024, they announced yet another credible affordable SUV for their UK customers, personal and business, to enjoy – the Puma Gen-E.

While continuing to produce the Mach-E, Explorer and Capri, Ford are trying to address the rising popularity of other brands with Stellantis pushing small car options via their “E-Car” project, VW with their ID.Polo, Cupra with their Raval and more Chinese car makers bringing a litany of options to the market. With the all-electric Puma proving to be popular in 2025, will the 2026 upgrade make a big difference?

But what Puma Gen-E options will be available?

  •  Select - from £26,245 the standard model will include 17” alloys, LED projector lights with day time running function, wireless charging pad, power start button, quickclear front windscreen, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, 12.8” instrument cluster, 12” touchscreen display, driver lumbar support, pre-collision assist, lane keeping aid and lane departure warning;
  • Premium - from £28,245 the upgraded model will include 18” alloy, Matrix LED lights, LED rear lamps, power-foldable heated door mirrors with puddle lights, front scuff plates, 12” touchscreen display, B&O audio system, keyless entry and power lift tailgate; and
  •  BlueCruise Edition – from £30,545 this adds the exclusive 18” alloy, unique Vapour Blue paint, black painted roof, blue fabric interior trim and the unique front door scuff plates.

As at May 2026, the Puma EV is supported by the Band 1 Electric Car grant  which you can peruse on the Gov website.

To upgrade your electric puma you can add options like the openable panoramic roof, detachable towbar, winter pack and interior black pack.  Colours include frozen white, cactus grey, electric yellow, agate black, solar silver, fantastic red, digital aqua blue and vapour blue.

How does the electric Puma Gen-E perform?

  •  Standard Range - Usable battery of 46.8 kWh which offers 124 kW (166hp), top speeds of 99 mph and 0-62 times of 8.0 seconds. Real-world ranges suggest a combined 155 miles in colder weather with warmer temperatures to allow for 215 miles (on a full charge) - 185 miles combined . The 11kW AC allows for 0-100% charging times of 5 hours with the 100 kW DC enabling 10-80% in 24 minutes. The Ford SUV has no Bidirectional charging. It has a 160 mpg equivalent, 523L cargo volume and offers towing capacities of 750kg (unbraked) and 750kg (braked). The heat pump is not available with the Puma.

With prices just over £25,000 this is a well-priced affordable EV for consumers / retail customers. As the EV mandate is enforcing manufacturers to reach 33% zero-emission in 2026, there needs to be attractive and robust solutions available. The Puma is very much that for small family SUVs.

But ensuring that you or the company understands the proposition is going to work, will be very much down to the suitability of the car. While going electric is a positive move, there are corresponding obligations too.

Our website assists you with this via our “living with your ...” analysis and our EVC™ tools. Fundamental elements like real-world range, charging times (AC and DC), charging costs, charge solutions, performance and towing are included too. We now include other aspects like EV tariffs, motor insurance and bidirectional charging.
