Leasing a Kia EV9 in the UK

Can you lease a big electric family car with Kia?

Well until 2023, UK customers were restricted to just the Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6, which are small to medium SUV and crossover car options. While these are probably more than substantial enough for a smaller family, or those zero-emission customers on a budget, if the size and carrying capacity of your vehicle is crucial, then you will have to look elsewhere.

In particular, if you need a 7-seat option, as at July 2023, you are limited to but a handful of cars / van-derived cars. But things are about to change, with Kia now confirming that this all-electric is ready to order which means that cars like the Mercedes EQB, Polestar 4 and Volvo EX90 are about to have some serious competition.

But what choices will the EV9 offer?

As at July 2023, the confirmed options are:

  • 150kW Air 99.8kWh 5dr Auto;
  •  282kW GT-Line 99.8kWh AWD 5dr Auto;
  •  282kW GT-Line S 99.8kWh AWD 5dr (6St) Auto; and
  • 282kW GT-Line S 99.8kWh AWD 5dr (7St) Auto.

The vehicle will be built on the E-GMP platform, which is a long wheelbase and flat electric architecture, allowing for maximum space. And both RWD and AWD variants are available. The driver will enjoy a three screen layout inside, with 12.3” infotainment and driver display (the panoramic wide display).

Also expect some nice features like wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated seats, air conditioning, ambient lighting, illuminated steering wheel, 360-degree camera, V2L charging and a powered tailgate. Other interesting tech includes the Digital Key 2 (for smartphone or smartwatch collaboration), OTA software updates, fingerprint authentication and built-in HD cam for the front and back of the vehicle.

The EV9 will offer an Air trim (RWD, smaller output, 19” alloys and efficiency focused) a GT-Line trim (AWD with 20” alloys, massage seats and two-tone interiors) plus a GT-Line S trim (for 21” alloys, 2 sunroofs, HUD, digital side mirrors and 14 speaker Meridian sound system). One of the amazing features about the EV9 is the configurable seats with the 2nd-row swivel seats, to allow passengers to face each other.

Alternatively, you can enjoy a 2nd-row premium relation seat which allows the passenger to lie down. Passengers enjoy independent controlled air condition, rear seat control and LED interior lights. Colours will include Ivory Matte Silver, Ocean Matte Blue, Snow White Pearl, Iceberg Green and Flare Red. A Trailer Package will add the tow hitch, side-steps and reversible boot mat. Or, enjoy a Lounge Package for built-in fridge, console pop-up tray, neck pillow and 2nd row smartphone charging.

So how does the EV9 perform?

For the RWD, the 99.8 kWh usable battery will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.4 seconds, 115 mph top speeds and 150 kW (or 201hp). This model is an RWD option. Expect a combined winter range of 250 miles with warmer weather allowing for 330 miles.

On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 250 kW DC maximum allowing 33 minute 10 – 80% times. The EV9 offers V2L with a 3.6 kW AC maximum output. Towing capacity is 450kg (unbraked) and 900kg (braked). As you would imagine, this is a large vehicle, with a cargo volume max of 2318L and a 5m length!

For the AWD, the 99.8 kWh usable battery will offer 0 – 62 times of 5.3 seconds, 124 mph top speeds and 238 kW (or 380hp). This model is an AWD option. Expect a combined winter range of 225 miles with warmer weather allowing for 300 miles. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 250 kW DC maximum allowing 33 minute 10 – 80% times.

The EV9 offers V2L with a 3.6 kW AC maximum output. Towing capacity is 750kg (unbraked) and 2500kg (braked). As you would imagine, this is a large vehicle, with a cargo volume max of 2318L and a 5m length!

With the EV9 starting from around £60,000 - £65,000 and going up to £76,000, this is not going to be a cheap electric car to lease personally or on business. Expect rentals of around £600 - £1000 per month, term, annual mileage and initial rental dependent. Use the Kia website - to build your perfect machine.
