Leasing the new MG4 EV Urban in the UK

Part of the excitement of EVs is the constant improvement and innovation which brands are making with their cars, many of which are on their 2nd or 3rd product cycle. This is testament to just how far brands have evolved across the globe.

One of the key companies in the UK has been the Chinese MG group (SAIC Motor Corporation) which was considered an early foreign entrant to the market. However, with options like the MGS5, MGS6, IM5 and IM6 all released during 2025, the engineering team are stopping at nothing when it comes to product diversity and choice for the UK customer.

One of their original vehicles, the MG4, has been given a fresh new update and approach, including the introduction of a cheaper and more affordable “Urban” edition. “Sharpened for the streets” the new MG4 Urban is a city-car but with generous space and finely-tuned ergonomics. The Urban has adult seats in the back, 577 litres of boot space (including 98 litres of underfloor storage) and functional safety via the 5 star NCAP crash testing.

Even though this is a smaller car, the MG group are directly addressing the notion of “range anxiety”, by utilising a functional battery configuration coupled with a heat pump as standard.

The critique of many small city-car EVs is that while they are cheap, their small battery packs limit those who are not low-mileage drivers. It isn’t just range and performance which MG are confronting; the latest car will allow for key spec and tech like keyless entry, 6-speaker immersive audio, Apple CarPlay, 12.8” HD touchscreen 7” driver display and a 360 degree camera. Cost-effective doesn’t need to cost your style with this new EV.

So what options are there on the MG4 Urban?

As at Feb 2026 choose between:

•  Comfort Standard Range – from £23,495 this includes 16” alloys, 12.8” HD screen, reversing camera, adaptive cruise, hill start assist, rear parking sensor, Blind spot detection, navigation, climate control, alarm and keyless entry ;
•  Comfort Long Range – from £26,040 this improves your battery configuration; and
• Premium Long Range – from £28,540 this adds 17” alloys, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, electric driver’s seat, wireless phone charging and the 60 degree camera.

Key colours include the Arctic White, Stone Green, Camden Grey, Cosmic Silver and Black Pearl.

How does the new MG4 EV Urban perform?

At launch, 3 battery options will feature including:

•  Comfort Standard Range – this FWD small EV will have a 41.9 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.5 seconds, 99 mph top speeds and 110kW (or 148hp). Expect a cold weather range of around 135 miles with warmer weather allowing for 185 miles – a combined range of around 160 miles on a full charge. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 4 hours and 30 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 82 kW DC maximum allowing 28 minute 10 – 80% times. This has a fuel equivalent of 155mpg. A cargo volume of 577L is available with this car. The car can tow 500kg (Braked and Unbraked). This will have Bidirectional charging capabilities via the V2L. The heat pump is standard;   
•  Comfort Long Range – this FWD small EV will have a 52.8 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.5 seconds, 99 mph top speeds and 118kW (or 158hp). Expect a cold weather range of around 170 miles with warmer weather allowing for 230 miles – a combined range of around 200 miles on a full charge. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 5 hours and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 87 kW DC maximum allowing 31 minute 10 – 80% times. This has a fuel equivalent of 153mpg. A cargo volume of 577L is available with this car. The car can tow 500kg (Braked and Unbraked). This will have Bidirectional charging capabilities via the V2L. The heat pump is standard; and
•  Premium Long Range – this FWD small EV will have a 52.8 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 9.5 seconds, 99 mph top speeds and 118kW (or 158hp). Expect a cold weather range of around 170 miles with warmer weather allowing for 230 miles – a combined range of around 200 miles on a full charge. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 5 hours and 45 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 87 kW DC maximum allowing 31 minute 10 – 80% times. This has a fuel equivalent of 153mpg. A cargo volume of 568L is available with this car. The car can tow 500kg (Braked and Unbraked). This will have Bidirectional charging capabilities via the V2L. The heat pump is standard.
