Leasing a Polestar 3 Electric in the UK

Are Polestar only producing a fastback electric solution? Having quickly established the Polestar as one of the main alternatives to the Tesla Model 3 (and BMW i4) the Volvo-backed brand have left our UK customers wanting more.

Electric cars are continuing to grow, with the seismic demand leaving many manufacturers without many stock options for 2022 and some are confirming that 2023 is already proving to be a busy year with a backlog of orders awaiting fulfilment – as at September 2022, a Polestar 3 will arrive in and around March 2023. And with the Polestar v Tesla debate remaining, the Polestar will only continue to grow in popularity as many EV customers crave the familiar European finish and aggressive external designs.

Because the UK is very much SUV and crossover focused, the addition of the 3 will be an exciting proposition for many of our Polestar lease customers.

“The Polestar 3 reimagines the SUV through premium electric performance …” according to the team on their website. But with expected prices north of £65,000, this will sit very much in the luxury and prestige EV segment. And for UK drivers, while there is limited information available to e-car, there are two key options and specifications set to launch in October 2022:

  •  3 360kW 111 kWh Long Range DM Plus Pilot 5dr Auto (from £65,750.00) – the “base” model offers a 12 Ultrasonic sensor pack, active air suspension, active LED headlights, 21” black diamond alloys, Bowers and Wilkins sound system, collision avoidance, electric 4-way lumbar support with memory seats, frameless electric side mirrors, heat pump, heated front/rear seats, lane keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, panoramic glass sunroof, privacy and wireless phone charger. Consider adding the 22” black polished forged alloys or the ventilated nappa leather for the ultimate car!
  • 3 380kW 111 kWh LR DM Plus Pilot performance 5dr Auto (from £70,415.00) – while similar to the specification in the entry model, by adding the Performance pack our customers can enjoy 4-piston Brembo brake callipers, gold seatbelts, gold tyre valves and 22” alloys as standard. As per the fastback model, by adding the performance pack, there is also a power increase for sharper 0 – 62 mph times (around 4.7 seconds!).

And will the Polestar 3 be the best electric family SUV to lease?

With Volvo having a sterling reputation for quality (and safe) family SUVs and estates, it seems somewhat logical that their performance offshoot will continue this tradition. Unfortunately, this car will NOT have 7-seats, which may be disappointing to any XC90 customers who are looking to make the electric car transition.

This will be a 5 seat SUV car only. However, the new SUV EV will share the same platform, so expect this to be on the bigger side i.e. this is not going to conflict with the Volvo XC40 and C40 all-electric platforms. Instead the Polestar 3 will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes EQC (and EQS SUV), the BMW iX, the Audi e-tron and the Tesla Model Y (and Model X). Moving forward, the Mercedes EQB will still be the only genuine electric 7 seat to lease or buy

And how does the Polestar 3 perform?

This will depend on the motor which you choose as there are two options which includes:

  •  Long Range Dual Motor – a 107 kWh lithium battery which offers 360 kW (or 483 hp) for 0 – 62 times of 5 seconds and top speeds of 130mph. In terms of charging times, the 11 kW AC max enables 0 - 100% in around 11 hours and 30 minutes and the 250 kW DC maximum will allow 10 – 80% in 32 minutes. The Polestar 3 will be one of the quickest charging EVs in the UK. And on range, the standard model will offer 260 miles in colder weather with warmer climates allowing 345 miles on a full charge. This has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 115 mpg. The 3 can also tow up to 2200kg (braked); and
  • Long Range Performance – a 107 kWh lithium battery which offers 380 kW (or 510 hp) for 0 – 62 times of 4.7 seconds and top speeds of 130mph. In terms of charging times, the 11 kW AC max enables 0 - 100% in around 11 hours and 30 minutes and the 250 kW DC maximum will allow 10 – 80% in 32 minutes. And on range, the performance model will offer 250 miles in colder weather with warmer climates allowing 325 miles on a full charge. This has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 110 mpg. Where the Polestar 3 is likely to be popular is with our salary sacrifice customers. This route of new car procurement is making a new electric car more affordable. Many UK employers are now building robust salary sacrifice car schemes to enhance their proposition and facilitate more eco car options for their staff. With a healthy list price, buying or leasing the Polestar 3 may be unaffordable for some retail customers.

However, using a sal sac scheme is more tax efficient for the employee, as utilising a gross salary can generate significant savings; anywhere between 30 – 60% in comparison to a like for like PCH agreement. And with 2% Benefit in Kind (BiK), the company car tax exposure is so nominal that the employee savings, coupled with the monthly NIC savings for the employer, does make this an attractive proposition. But that is not to say that the team at e-car lease cannot help with any business or fleet enquiries, or personal leasing requirements, with the new Polestar 3.

How much is a Polestar 3 to lease?
With a price-tag of around £80,000 for the entry-level Polestar 3 ESTATE 360kW 111kWh Long Range DM Plus Pilot 5dr Auto and £85,500 for the Plus Pilot performance 5dr Auto this is very much a luxury and performance EV. The e-car lease team expect monthly rentals to be around £800 - £1200 per month based on your, or the company’s, needs and requirements. Use our instant quote calculator to get the best price

Is a Polestar 3 a good car to lease?
The latest luxury SUV for Polestar has not yet launched for a test drive or demo by the UK’s automotive media and press. Early indications suggest that this will be a great alternative to the BMW iX, Mercedes EQS SUV and the upcoming Tesla Model X. And while not a cheap car to lease, the OTR at around £80,000 - £90,000 does make this cheaper than many of the competition, so those personal or business leading customers who do want a little more value could elect to enjoy the Polestar SUV. With deliveries pencilled for late 2023, we are hoping for demos to arrive in the UK early 2023

Is a Polestar 3 lease right for me or the business?
Understanding a good or bad EV is more than just the specification, exterior or interior appearance. While these are robust metrics for appreciating a car, the added complexities brought about by electrification are something that any driver, fleet manager or operations director should be taking on board. This is why our “living with your …” tools on the e-car lease website are so critical for understanding product suitability. From range to charge times to company car tax calculators,  our website is the key resource for the electric vehicle transition.

Where do I find the best Polestar 3 lease deals in the UK?
At the present (October 2022), there are very few deals on the new Polestar 3 and with deliveries only set to take place in “quarter 4 of 2023” these can still be subject to change.  However, the e-car lease team are now showing our best deals on the website via our Polestar 3 lease deal page. Expect more to follow in price comparison leasing websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, Moneyshake, LeaseFetcher or LeaseLoco. For anyone, or any business trying to understand if it is  better to lease or buy the Polestar 3 head to the Polestar website or visit one of their flagship stores.

What is the cheapest Polestar 3 leasing option?
At the time of writing (October 2022) the Polestar 3 ESTATE 360kW 111kWh Long Range DM Plus Pilot 5dr Auto will be the cheapest SUV to lease. But with 12 month+ lead times, the Volvo brand may add further options to lease yet.

What is the range of a Polestar 3?
The distance your EV will travel on a full charge is subject to the weather and driving conditions. This is why the e-car lease website never uses just one absolute range statistic. For the Polestar 3 LR DM expect colder weather to offer 220 Miles on the motorway and 305 miles in city and urban conditions. For warmer weather this increases to 275 miles and 435 miles respectively. For customers leasing the quicker Performance model can note the colder weather range of 210 Miles on the motorway and 290 miles in city and urban conditions. For warmer weather this increases to 265 miles and 415 miles respectively.

Can you tow with a Polestar 3?
Yes – you can tow with this luxury electric SUV. An automatic folding towbar is available on the vehicle

What is the towing capacity of the Polestar 3?
The Polestar 3 can tow up to 2,200kg.

What is the MPG of the Polestar 3?
