The electric performance SUV market just got a little more interesting, with Polestar now officially confirming that their luxury crossover Coupe is available to order, with new models expected to go into production late 2023 (November/December).

Based on the new Geely SEA1 electric platform, this new EV is expected to bring the Polestar into direct competion with Audi e-Tron, BMW iX and Mercedes EQE Estate. And of course, the Lotus Eletre (which uses the Geely SEA-S platform). Described as “the aerodynamics of a coupe, the space of an SUV, the technology for the electric age” is this really one of the best zero-emission options for 2024 and beyond?

The car looks amazing, with stunning clear finishes and a host of technological marvels, like the rear window which has been replaced with a rear-facing HD camera! While an SUV, this is still a lower and sportier option, which does assist with efficiency and range.

And inside, there is no lack of quality for the driver, not to mention the Google built-in system for Assistant, Maps and Home integration. A large 10.2” central screen acts as the vehicle control allowing for the solar system interior lights to maximise the passenger comfort. Multi-angling seats with ventilation and massage, coupled with Harmon Kardon sound system are nice additional touches.

The stunning full-length glass roof is available with the optional electrochromic functionality so that you can enjoy transparent or opaque. Sustainability is also at the heart of the product with 100% recycled PET seats and floor carpets. Plus enjoy the regulate OTA (over-the-air) updates for new features and software upgrades.

A plus Pack is available for comfort and tech upgrades with the Plus Pro Pack allowing for the body coloured externals, electrochromic roof and interior illumination. A Nappa Pack adds full Nappa leather to the vehicle. A Pilot pack, which includes Pilot Assist, with be available in addition to the Performance Pack for 22” alloys, Brembo brakes, gold seat belts and brakes plus the Engineered performance chassis.

So far Polestar have confirmed two key battery options / configurations – 1) the 200 kW 100 kWh Long Range Single Motor; and 2) the 400 kW 100 kWh Long Range Dual Motor. Each of these can be configured with the Pilot, Pro or Performance Packs.

So how does the standard Long Range Single Motor perform?

This RWD SUV will have a 94 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.4 seconds, 112 mph top speeds and 200 kW (or 268 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 265 miles with warmer weather allowing for 360 miles.

On charging, the 22 kW AC max will allow 5 hour and 15 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 200 kW DC maximum allowing 28 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 500L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 136 mpg. This option can tow 750kg (unbraked) and 1500kg (braked). This EV will have no Bidirectional charging.

So how does the standard Long Range Dual Motor perform?

This AWD SUV will have a 94 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 3.8 seconds, 124 mph top speeds and 400 kW (or 536 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 250 miles with warmer weather allowing for 335 miles.

On charging, the 22 kW AC max will allow 5 hour and 15 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 200 kW DC maximum allowing 28 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 500L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 127 mpg. This option can tow 750kg (unbraked) and 2000kg (braked). This EV will have no Bidirectional charging.

With prices expected to be confirmed at around £55,000 for the Single Motor and £60,000 for the Dual Motor, this SUV Coupe will be more expensive than the 2 but cheaper than the bigger 3.
