Leasing a Renault Megane E-tech in the UK

Are Renault only producing the Zoe as part of their 100% electric range? Until 2021 / 2022, for fans of the French manufacturer, the small city-car Zoe was the only battery electric vehicle on fleet. But, as part of keeping up with some of the great competition in the electric car market, Renault launched their Megane E-tech which will be built on their new CMF-EV revolutionary platform for optimised weight distribution and a longer wheelbase.

ut what type of car is the new Megane? Unlike the predecessor, this is not just a simple 5-door hatchback; it’s more akin to the Captur with the higher driving position but with the sleek and sharp designs you expect. For customers looking at the Citroen e-C4, Volvo XC40 and Mercedes EQA, this will be a comparable choice.

This crossover, which was announced in late 2021, only went into production early-2022, so it may only be available in more considered volume towards early 2023 for the UK’s personal and business leasing customers.

Will the Megane have enough battery choices to make it a practical EV? Thankfully, Renault have recognised the need for battery choice (as the cost of the vehicle is often determined by this) with the two following options:

  •  EV40 – this is a usable 40 kWh lithium battery which offers 96 kW (or 129hp), 0 – 62 times of 10 seconds and 93mph top speeds. The smaller battery will offer combined real-world ranges of 130 miles in colder climates with the warmer weather paving way for combined ranges of 175 miles. In terms of charging speeds / times, the 7.4 kW AC max will enable 0 – 100% times of 6 hours and 30 mins with the 85 kW DC rapid charging allowing near-30 minute 10 – 80% times; and

  • EV60 – the flagship usable 60 kWh lithium battery will offer 160 kW (or 215hp), 0 – 62 times of 7.5 seconds and 99mph top speeds. The smaller battery will offer combined real-world ranges of 185 miles in colder climates with the warmer weather paving way for combined ranges of 255 miles. In terms of charging speeds / times, the 7.4 kW AC max will enable 0 – 100% times of just under 10 hours with the 130kW DC rapid charging allowing near-30 minute 10 – 80% times.

Which 100% electric Megane is the best? As part of a brand refresh and breakthrough design, all models will benefit from the SUV look with the saloon body plus the addition of signature lighting for the front and rear, a new Renault badge and new Renault logo. In terms of specification options, please see below:

  • Equilibre – 18” alloys, OpenR-link (with Google built-in), two 12” screens, electric/heated door mirrors, heated seats, integrate navigation, cruise control and parking sensors;
  • Techno – climate control, electric passenger’s seat, parking sensors, heated seats, integrate navigation and electric/heated door mirrors; and
  • Evolution – upgraded 18” alloys, Harmon Kardon sound, climate control, electric passenger’s seat, parking sensors, heated seats, integrate navigation and electric/heated door mirrors.

Not unlike any electric vehicle, many of our PCH, BCH and salary sacrifice customers are asking – how long does it take to order a Megane e-tech? Since around 2020, much of the automotive industry has changed in that manufacturers are no longer building masses of cars with customers then able to pick and choose what they want / when they want it for.

Because of COVID, parts shortages and the impact of electrification, most manufacturers are adopting a build to order approach. For our customers, this means that they need to use the Renault website, or ours, to build the exact car and specification they require.

Our team will then speak with our select dealership partners to understand how long the vehicle will take to be built – this could be from 3 months to up to 1 year based on their allocation and build schedules. Many vehicles are not built in the UK, so you will also have to account for transportation too. If you are already leasing a car, then consider ordering the Megane at least 6 months before the contract end date.

How much is a Renault Megane E-tech to lease?
With this EV likely to launch at £30,000 - £35,000, not taking into account any extra specification, expect the best leasing deals to be around £300 - £450 per month (term and annual mileage dependent.)

Is a Renault Megane E-tech a good car to lease?
As a new to launch product, there is little information and feedback available on the Megane EV. The automotive press is rating this at 8/10 from CarWow, 8.5/10 from Electrifying and 3/5 by What Car? The EV60 looks the model to choose, with the impressive performance and robust real-world range; the comprehensive 130 kW DC rapid charge speed is admirable too. Customers also have the comfort that Renault are not a new EV manufacturer having created BEVs in the form of cars and vans over the last 10 years.

Is a Renault Megane E-tech lease right for me or the business?
The Megane will deliver looks, practicality and, in the case of business and salary sacrifice customers, incredibly low company car tax liabilities. But whether or not the car is suitable will depend on more intricate factors – charging times, seasonal ranges, charging cables, charge point infrastructure at home / workplace. Indeed our “Living with your …” tools do exactly this for you, highlighting the true benefits (or drawbacks) of pure electric driving. To help bolster Whole of Life cost understanding, our amazing website now shows you the cost of a “full tank” as well as a cost per mile for you to achieve complete price certainty on every deal.

Where do I find the best Renault Megane E-tech lease deals in the UK?
Many personal and business lease customers looking for the best offers will often begin at comparison websites like AutoLeaseCompare, CarWow, LeaseFetcher and LeaseLoco. However, very few websites offer you the comprehensive EV analysis which the e-car lease tools do, so we find that our website is fast becoming THE resource of understanding anything BEV-related. And customers have complete comfort that they are getting great value as the prices we show are the most competitive from the select finance companies we work alongside (we are a credit broker not a lender). Should you buy or lease the Megane E-tech? Compare this yourself by heading to your local retailer to get a test-drive and for a PCP or HP quotation.

What is the cheapest Renault Megane E-tech Electric leasing option?
At the time of writing (May 2022) the cheapest model to select is EV40 96kW Equilibre 40kWh Boost Charge 5dr Auto at just over £30,000. The Megane should be reasonably priced in UK and this should make it equally popular with both personal and business customers

What is the range of an Electric Renault Megane E-tech?
Where many customers get nervous is on the subject of range. While we do stress that charging times are of equal importance, we do understand for high-mileage and company car users, that range must be suitable for their needs and requirements. For the EV40 this will have a motorway range of 105 miles and city-driving of around 150 miles in colder climates. The warmer temperatures should increase this to 140 miles on motorways and city-driving of around 230 miles. The bigger-battery EV60 should deliver a motorway range of 155 miles and city-driving of around 215 miles in colder climates on a full charge. The warmer temperatures should increase this to 205 miles on motorways and city-driving of around 330 miles.

Can you tow with a Renault Megane E-tech?
Yes - you can purchase a towing attaching for the Megane

What is the towing capacity of the Renault Megane E-tech?
With an unbraked weight capability of 750kg and a braked capability of 900kg, this could be an ideal EV towing solution

What is the MPG of the Renault Megane E-tech?
This EV has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 157mpg and for the EV60 this has a vehicle fuel equivalent 152mpg
