More than just a car - The Hyundai Ioniq 3 Electric Car Lease - Electric Car News

Hyundai are looking to come back to the UK’s electric car leasing market with a bang in 2027. Undoubtedly, like many brands, the South Korean group has felt the pressures of the Chinese growth in the EV and PHEV market.

With the UK Government now under some significant pressure to change their approach on tariffs (from 10% to something north of 30%), the opportunity for great price parity and product quality has arisen. The facelift to their Ioniq 6, a direct Mercedes CLA electric competitor, is a wise move from the team, especially as this qualifies for the full Electric Car Grant of £3750.

With the recent 2026 Budget confirming that the UK political powers are still pushing this financial support for customers and manufacturers alike, affordability and accessibility are in place for the medium term.

With greater confidence, the e-car lease team are seeing a significant increase in demand for smaller and more affordable vehicles, like the affable Ioniq 3. Not unlike the Ioniq 6, this also qualifies for the mega £3750 Band 1 grant too.

This essentially means some unbelievable purchase / leasing prices for the end-user. While the move towards zero-emission is being encouraged via the cheaper electricity costs compared to petrol and diesel, this is not to say that UK consumers in the new and used electric car markets have unlimited budgets.

With pressure mounting on UK households, every aspect of our lives must be financially assessed to ensure we are making cost-effective and practical decisions. This may also extend to how we use our EVs beyond driving.

Bidirectional charging is now the topic of conversation in the UK. Only today Installer online posted an article on V2G  has discussed the future of energy and vehicles. What is probably a little unknown is what “Bidirectional” charging is and why it is so important for you or the business fleet. As per our EVC™ see the synopsis below:

“More and more EVs are now capable of sending energy to other devices. To help drivers understand their EV's capabilities we have noted where this is available and how it operates. Vehicle to Load (V2L) allows your EV to charge electric appliances and powers tools such as a computer or kettle. An interior or exterior UK socket will be available on the vehicle to facilitate this process.

Vehicle to Home (V2H) allows your vehicle to operate in conjunction with your home. In practice, your EV acts as a battery storage and can supply your home with energy where required i.e. during energy-intensive time periods. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology allows your vehicle to send energy back to the grid during high demand periods and earn you money in the process of doing so. For drivers with sustainable energy solutions at home, such as solar panels, the integration of bidirectional technology in the EV and their home charge point are now an essential feature.”

Our cars are more than just vehicles; they are moving batteries with capacity for energy storage. This is where the article alludes to the advantage of more robust and proficient EVs with the key findings including:

  1.  The UK’s fleet has a theoretical capability to store 114 GWh of electricity, which can support the UK’s grid of 137 GWh
  2.  A fully electric car fleet in the UK would theoretically provide 48 hours of electricity across the UK if no other resources were available

  1.  Smarter charging habits can help manage electric needs in neighbourhood grids
  2.  Commercial models, which remunerate the various stakeholders in the process, can help the uptake
  3.  UK drivers can actively contribute to the energy system and help improve the UK’s grid system (while benefitting financially)

What EVs do more so than petrol or diesel vehicles is to increase accountability for the driver and connect them deeper to the entire ecosystem. With our houses powered by electricity, harnessing the synergy between vehicles and the home, through bidirectional charging systems, only helps to improve everyone’s lives. So, manufacturers like Hyundai, who are investing into this and providing UK drivers with this capability, do deserve recognition and credit.
