As another week closes (12 June 2026) the UK is again enjoying a positive and robust electric car and van market update. The major news is of course the BYD charging network, which was formally announced and trialled this week, where their new Flash Electric Car Charger will bring about some of the most expedient and efficient EV sessions to date.
Reported throughout the news and media, the demonstration on their upcoming Denza (which you can build and discover) proved that a 5-minute charging session really was possible. Their new 1.5 Megawatt / 1500kW charging infrastructure can, when connected to the Blade Battery 2.0, enable some lightning customer experiences.

However, at a cost of nearly £600,000 per charger this will be a massive undertaking for the BYD Group. As The Telegraph reported, Stella Li (the VP of BYD) confirmed that investment would continue in the UK and at least 300 of the ultra-rapid charging hubs would be built across the UK within a 9-month period. Forming part of a billion-pound strategy, the BYD team are aiming to be the dominant EV manufacturer in the UK automotive market.
Good news stories, along with show and tell events, like the recent one in Hull are key to consumer confidence. As reported in the BBC the Let’s Go Electric event in Hull, which is organised by Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, visitors will be able to touch, understand and drive some of the modern electric cars currently available to the UK.
With transport emission and clean air very much on the agenda for towns and cities across the UK, utilising zero-emission transport is a key route. Yet, encouraging people, and not just businesses, into EVs will take more than just messages. As the team in Hull have noted, there needs to be a more innate understanding and connection to the vehicles. This sentiment applies equally to the New and Used EV markets.

While a more controversial topic a few year ago, when the average range was far lower, as at 2026 we are now enjoying an average range of just over 250 miles! You can access our Electric Vehicle Guide to compare every new EV to ascertain this.
But range, even where the battery is robust, still needs a modicum of understanding and comprehension. Too quickly, a customer will rely on the WLTP overall combined range for their assessment. Since driving styles, behaviours and temperature do impact the efficiency, this is not a practical assessment of a BEV.
As highlighted on our website, and using the Mercedes GLC Electric as the example you need to consider further metrics for example:
As you can discern fairly quickly, the disparity in range depends on the conditions the vehicle is experiencing. This is without considering aspects like specification upgrades such as bigger alloys or a panoramic roof, which can influence efficiency and range, or charging habits in winter and cold weather periods.
Why is this important? Well using the GLC as an example, you may consider the GCL 400 with the bigger battery as the preferred option. However, when you carry out a range assessment, you might actually consider that the small battery in the GLC 250 is more than suitable.

This will effectively save you or the company some money! As more EVs are able to rapid charge (shown as DC on the vehicle / websites) more competently, if you can access the ultra-rapid services then you can effectively manage the experience quite conveniently.
The new GLC 250 (which UK companies and individuals can order from June 2026) is now on the Mercedes website to configure and build:
