It’s always a good sign when a manufacturer decides to revise a popular EV with aesthetic, battery and technological improvements. The ever-popular BMW i4 Gran Coupe is now benefitting from a series of changes from the elite German automotive engineering team.
When the i4 arrived in 2021, this was a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 fastback options, which were effectively dominating this market segment. While the last 3 - 4 years have proved to be positive, the EV market continues to develop and evolve, meaning that the various brands operating here need to ensure they lift their standards.
This is a prevailing consideration when more Chinese brands are launching a litany of credible vehicles into the leasing market, especially with the recent onslaught of BYD options like the Seal, Sealion 7 and Dolphin Surf. It isn’t just the push of competition which is creating changes and adjustments, there are also more positive pull factors which are starting to bear fruit.
A good example of the positive changes in the UK is with the growing volume of charging locations, with many local councils now creating more facilities for its residents and utilising the LEVI fund which is helping to enact this.
As you will see on the EST website, the fund is supporting local authorities of England and Wales to help roll out charge point infrastructure, with grants to cover the infrastructure and human resource to deliver it. If you head to the EST website, you can click on the active live tenders to ascertain what potential opportunities may exist in your region.
As reported in the BBC West Berkshire are the latest to go live with a series of charge points at key locations like Pelican Lane, Newbury Station, Northbrook multi-storey car park and the Corn Exchange. The 22kW AC units will be made available for the general public to use at the cost of 44 pence per kWh.
Further points will be installed at Theale car park and Thatcham Leisure Centre, as part of improving accessibility. The decision to use AC, rather than DC units, is very much about reducing costs, with the rapid charging facilities potentially cost obstructive and subsequently expensive to charge on. With many EVs now capable of 11kW AC, and some even 22kW AC, this does allow a fairly substantial charging session for an amenable cost.
The 2025 BMW mid-size sporty coupe i4 is a vehicle looking to capitalise on the ever increasing confidence in BEV options. A “Driving Pleasure” the updated i4 will feature redesigned headlights, front grille accentuation, updated steering wheel design and a waterfall ambient lighting feature inside.
The brand are leaning on their “dynamic in every respect” a reason to go electric with BMW. Their option adaptive LED headlights have enhanced vision and safety, the laser rear lights and options adaptive LED headlights add precision with the iconic kidney grille offering a striking feature.
