One of the UK’s leading EVs, the Tesla Model Y, is getting an update from its engineering team. The group, still led by Elon Musk, have been on the backfoot in 2025 with a swathe of new Chinese and European competitors now entering the maturing UK market.
As reported in the SMMT November 2025 proved to be a reasonable month for battery technology, with 39,965 vehicles registered and a market share of 26.4%.
This is no longer just about the fleet and salary sacrifice schemes which are taking up lithium-ion options; personal contract hire and other retail consumes in the PCP and Hire purchase space are now also making the progression into a zero-emission solution.

When you consider that year to date we have registered 426,209 EVs compared to the 338,314 of 2024, you can see the positive development and future. Whether this will actually reach the ambitions of the ZEV Mandate is another thing but the move towards 50% by 2030 seems at very least achievable.
As a result there are more brands and manufacturers taking advantage of the opportunities which are consistently arising in a turbulent political and economic climate.
It always helps when we have more encouraging and positive reports covering the EV segment, like the recent BBC report on pedestrian safety. Covering a study from the University of Leeds, the link between pedestrian safety and casualties involving pure electric vehicles compared to petrol / diesel has been dispelled.

In an analysis of 2019 -2023 data, the 71,979 pedestrians hit were allocated to some 91.25% petrol or diesel vehicles and just 1.3% electric vehicles. Using the miles driven and vehicle volumes, similar casualty rates were found. When EVs started to really get popular, there was an underlying submission that the absence of noise would lead to higher casualty and deaths.
However, with noise-emitting devices, not to mention a litany of safety and precautionary devices, there is no evidence to support that EVs are more dangerous than our traditional formats.
The midsize electric SUV from Tesla will receive a small overhaul as it looks to capitalise on some changes within the UK, especially with the push towards a cheaper Standard model. The revised Model Y will include:
