The Polestar brand are not unlike Tesla, in that as a brand solely focused on BEV options there is very much a ‘like it or hate it’ type of mentality from UK customers.

With Polestar, we had a European alternative to the Tesla options, with the Polestar 2 as a comparator for the Model 3 and the subsequent Polestar 4 a competitor to the Tesla Model Y. However, Polestar seem to have taken their EV responsibility to the next level, introducing the 4 SUV and then hitting the UK in 2026 with the new 5 coupe (effectively a supercar).

The determination of the Volvo and Geely partnership is plain to see, and the continuing evolution and investment means only one thing ... excellent electric cars and for British drivers to enjoy.

Launching new products and derivatives is only possible where the environment is suitable for the market. While the UK has seen considerable investment and interest to ensure EVs can be safely sold / leased, there is still more which can be done. So major announcements in the BBC  which confirm significant investment into charging infrastructure is very much what we want to see and read.

The £4m Government investment will see Oxfordshire benefit from some 1,500 EV charging points over the next 2 years. While there has been concern and push back because EV charging bays could take away parking from those non-EV drivers who do need parking, the availability of charging is crucial to the agenda.

The big push is to ensure that more rural areas are not left behind, as EV drivers will not always live in busy conurbations, towns and cities. Part of helping personal and business customers to go electric to the extent which the ZEV Mandate dictates will need to ensure that more British drivers are provided with the facility and infrastructure. While terraced and apartment customers are often used as the case study, more rural and agricultural citizens should not be ignored.

As the BBC further details, the introduction of more charging facilities brings with it other challenges and issues. Not all the residents within the Oxfordshire district are overwhelmed with plans to upgrade their vicinity.

With some areas already busy when it comes to parking, there are issues surrounding the removal of existing bays for combustion drivers who need it. While others have questions over the conservation and environmental impacts of the EV changes.

While we see both perspectives, the fact is that personal / retail customers are opining on this without having a BEV themselves. With the changes afoot, especially with the used EV sector, how are residents in more isolated places going to feel with an absent charging infrastructure? This is why projects to help smaller communities is so important.

The same can be said with more isolated tourist attractions and hot spots, which have the capability to offer key resources to visitors and guests. The recent upgrade of RHS Garden Wisley to 8 50kW DC charging points and 24 22lkW AC charging points by the RAW charging group is the type of project we like to see. Visibility and accessibility of charging areas is key to bolstering enthusiasm in the EV evolution.

For the Polestar group, who re-introduce their Polestar 4 as an SUV option (the one with the rear window!), a continued British passion for zero-emission motoring is key. The space of an estate, and the versatility of the SUV, the updated model is the start of a new direction from the Polestar design team.

Their endeavour is to create the iconic sports car engineering at the front, with the sports utility and practicality at the back. This is achieved by roof rails lending straight lines to the silhouette, a clear glass rear window, rear exterior cameras and forged performance rear wheels with Brembo brakes.

Of course, the 530L boot space is designed to create a family-focused EV with room for the weekly hauls and adventures (or 1665L with the rear seats folded down)! This vehicle retains the electrochromic layer upgrade for the tint adjustment panoramic roof. Inside the elegant materials, Scandinavian minimalism and tailored comfort means that driver and passengers alike will receive the highest possible experience.

UK leasing customers can now configure and order the SUV version as at September 2026. So what options are available? You can configure your bespoke option on the  Polestar  website and this includes:

•  Rear Motor – from £54,750 and
•  Dual Motor – from £60,750.  

Both options include key features like 20” Aero wheels, dynamic chassis, heated/folding/adjustable door mirrors, active LED headlights, daytime running lights, rain sensing wipers, UV and noise reducing glass, 8-way adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, preconditioning, CleanZone air filtration, wireless device charging, heat pump, 10” driver display, 15.4” centre display, high-performance audio, NFC key card, Animal Mode, 12 ultrasonic sensors, HD vehicle cameras around the vehicle and full ADAS. 

Key colours include Aurora Green, Lightning, Magnesium Silver, Electron Blue, Storm Grey, Space Black, Snow White and Stratus Grey matte.

The Business Pack is standard currently (with Pilot Assist, Park assist and privacy glass) but there are optional packs like the Prime pack (Harmon Kardon, Pixel LED headlights, 12-way adjustable seats, heated rear seats, PM 2.5 air filtration) and Performance Pack (22” performance, Polestar Engineered chassis, Swedish gold embellishments and the bio-attributed MicroTech). Other options include the digital rear view mirror, electrochromic glass roof and fully electrically retractable towbar.

So how does the Polestar 4 SUV perform?

•  Polestar 4 SUV Rear Motor - this RWD SUV will have a 94 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 7.3 seconds, 124 mph top speeds and 200 kW (or 268 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 255 miles with warmer weather allowing for 345 miles – 300 miles combined. On charging, the 11kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 15 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 200 kW DC maximum allowing 31 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 530L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 129 mpg. This option can tow 750kg (unbraked) and 1500kg (braked). This EV will have Bidirectional charging – the exterior type 2 can offer 3.3kW AC. The heat pump is a standard option; and  

• Polestar 4 SUV Dual Motor - This AWD SUV will have a 94 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 3.9 seconds, 124 mph top speeds and 400 kW (or 536 hp). Expect a combined winter range of 255 miles with warmer weather allowing for 340 miles. On charging, the 11kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 15 minute 0 – 100% charging times with the 200 kW DC maximum allowing 31 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 526L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 127 mpg. This option can tow 750kg (unbraked) and 2000kg (braked). This EV will have Bidirectional charging – the exterior type 2 can offer 3.3kW AC. The heat pump is a standard option.
