Obstacles to an electric car lease, personal and business, have circulated around a number of key areas and topics. At the forefront of UK’s reticence to push into battery electric was “range” - how far will the car travel?
What if it runs out of charge during the journey? Are EVs functional for my daily commute? As at 2026 the average EV on our e-car website has around 252 miles of range , which means the majority of new EVs being sold / leased in the UK are more than capable of meeting the needs and requirements of the driver.
Even in the case of high-mileage drivers, there are a number of robust motoring solutions which enable you to charge at home and then operate the vehicle during the course of the day, without the necessity to charge. However, there are obvious gaps and fragilities in situations where the driver does not have a home charge point or if the vehicle is being operated on an exceptionally high mileage journey.
It is in this situation that the concept of public charging, particularly destination charging, becomes so key to the market confidence.

Stories like The Scotsman report on a Scottish café and deli installing an EV charge point at their business premises is a true testament to the changes which are happening throughout the UK. The OakHill café is based in the grounds of Carsluith Castle and is a key location for tourists.
The owners, noticing the influx of electric vehicles travelling to or around the area, secured a grant to install EV charging solutions at their premises. This means that tourists can not only enjoy the food and drink but they can additionally secure a charging solution too. While this may sound like common sense, for many small businesses with the viability to have EV chargers, they simply may not be aware of the local grants and programmes supporting these infrastructure developments.
Some local companies may not be EV drivers themselves and so do not wholly understand the actual importance of the destination charging. Having solutions in sight, and in mind, are crucial to supporting the evolution and transition into a BEV.
Customers can now review on the Zap Map website , or their app, the volume of charge points which is very much improving. As at January 2026 we have some 88,513 devices in 45,242 locations with 717 installed in Jan. The big improvement is in the Rapid and Ultra-Rapid charging segment, where 142 solutions were installed in January 2026.

In 2023, the UK closed with 10,118 rapid charging options and by Jan 2026, this has increased to 18,077. For EV drivers moving around the UK to key destinations, the ability to quickly top-up on the DC is an attractive proposition.
As many EVs are now able to charge above 150kW (the average is 191kW DC on the e-car website), within 20 - 30 minutes your vehicle is ready for an onward delivery to the end destination or for your journey home. Since many destination chargers, and service stations, have facilities which the driver finds useful, this creates a more positive experience for all concerned. Confidence is key to the EV transition working.
