The surge in leasing an electric car via your business / company has almost certainly been influenced by the worldwide events and the situation in Iran continuing to disrupt oil prices. As reported in the Guardian it isn’t just the UK which is experiencing these seismic changes; countries like Germany, France and Spain are also seeing changing behaviours within their automotive market.
In Germany, the VW ID.3 was recognised as the most popular EV in the market, with the nation also experiencing 2.5 Euro per litre diesel prices! Not unlike the UK, European nations are seeing the prices of petrol and diesel at the pumps reach new (and lofty) heights which is making a car customer consider their options more carefully.
Across Europe, there are some 25 – 50% increases in electric car searches, as new and used battery formats become a more palatable proposition for both personal and business leasing customers. In France, a 160% increase in electric car searches was recorded between March and April.

This is showing that consumers are equally sensitive across UK and Europe on fuel / electricity prices and their respective cost of living. This comes at a time when manufacturers have questioned emission and electrification targets which have been put in place by the political and economic powers.
While the new environment will hopefully result in more new and used EV sales, the extent to which these will meet the respective targets is still under question. In the March SMMT stats, the increase in pure electric registrations is still behind the expectations of the Government, which is why this trade body is still questioning its efficacy.
What we do know, is that electric cars for your business are still going to continue for the short to medium term regardless of any targets or cost of living quandaries. The added benefit of electric costs vs petrol / diesel costs is a consideration for any fleet or salary sacrifice scheme. However, the underlying rationale for moving into a zero-emission vehicle is very much about the sage financial metrics which essentially help both the employer and employee benefit such as:

On a simple financial analysis, the move into an electric car is a straightforward financial and accounting proposition. However, more EVs are beyond just that and now offer a high level of practicality and comfort. The family segment, especially 7-seat options, is becoming increasingly popular.
Gone are the days when UK customers drive an MPV style family “bus”, which effectively were quite large and aesthetically unpleasant vehicles. Modern UK drivers like SUV and crossover options, with the higher-driving position and the improved ergonomics. Manufacturers are now making these 4x4 options even more attractive to leasing customers, as they make them 7-seats. So far, the UK’s most-popular 7-seat EVs have been:
However, the UK’s favourite EV manufacturer is bringing a 7-seat family option to market, officially launching this package for the Model Y in April 2026 (3rd of April to be accurate). Available in the Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive ONLY, leasing customers can choose between the five-seat interior (standard) and the seven seat interior (£2500 additional cost).

As you can see on the images, the Premium 7-Seater is designed to deliver maximum versatility for families, offering the modularity needed to accommodate all family members. An adjusted configuration unlocks more versatility by introducing a third row with two forward-facing, fold-flat seats.
It gives the flexibility to seat more passengers when required, while still offering segment-leading cargo capacity once the seats are folded. The 3rd row passengers still have significant headroom thanks to the glass as well as the USB outlets for charging devices.
To assist the UK market, Tesla have produced a QnA
