Leasing an Audi Q8 e-tron Electric in the UK

Since 2019, the e-tron estate (SUV) and the Sportback variant (which followed in 2020) have become key electric options in the UK’s leasing market. And while these were Audi’s first mass production EV, the German car producer has continued to create some more amazing product, with their small Q4 SUV and the sports performance e-tron GT supplementing their product line-up.

While their A6 e-tron concept, with a purported 400 mile+ range, was thought to be the latest addition to Audi’s electric car offering, a revamped and re-purposed e-tron Estate and Sportback has instead been confirmed. With a modernised facelift, efficiency and range improvements, UK leasing customers looking to order the bigger electric SUV will now have to utilise the 2023 Q8 e-tron, while the existing stock is sold and / or leased.

What specification options will the Q8 e-tron include?

Not unlike the predecessor, Audi will be including an array of spec and battery choices for both the Estate / SUV and the Sportback variants. For the Estate this will include:

  • Sport – from £67,000 for the 50 and £77,000 for the 55, this model will offer 20” alloys, adaptive air suspension, Audi Matrix LED headlights, LED rear lights, power-operate tailgate, keyless-go, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, twin leather upholstery, heated front seats, 4-way lumbar support, 2-zone air conditioning, multi-function steering wheel, MMI navigation Plus, Virtual Cockpit, wireless charging, lane departure warning, parking system plus with 360 degree sensors, camera traffic sign recognition, Audi pre-sense front and basic;
  •  S Line – from £72,000 for the 50 and £82,000 for the 55, the S Line adds 21” alloys, S Line exterior styling, gloss styling pack, privacy glass on rear and side windows, front sports seats, comfort front centre armrest, twin leather pack, pedals in stainless steel, inlays in dark matt brushed aluminium, 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel with paddles, S logo for steering wheel;
  •  Black Edition– from £74,500 for the 50 and £84,500 for the 55, the Black Edition Q8 adds 21” black alloys, black door mirrors, black roof rails, gloss black exterior, Audi beam with e-tron logo, 5MC and the Black Edition Pack; and
  • Vorsprung - from £89,000 for the 50 and £99,000 for the 55, the Vorsprung has 4-Zone deluxe air conditioning, keyless entry virtual door mirrors, power door closures, Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound, Audi virtual cockpit plus, adaptive cruise control, park assist with parking aid, front/rear view camera with two side camera, lane keeping system, Tour pack, City Assist Pack, HUD, Audi side assist, Front cross traffic assist, 22” alloys, Matrix LED headlights, LED headlamps, panoramic glass sunroof, S sport seats with diamond stitching, heated front and rear seats, extended leather pack, heated steering wheel and extended LED interior lighting pack plus the Audi beam with Vorprung logo.

In terms of colour choices choose between the solid Magnet grey, the metallic Ultra blue, Chronos grey, Glacier white, Madeira brown, Mythos black, Plasma blue, Soneira red or the pearly effect Daytona grey. In terms of additional options, the Audi website currently offers a Storage package (for stowage compartment lining, luggage nets and 2 cup holders in centre armrest) for £130 or the ability to extend the warranty for either 4 years / 75,000 (£635) or 5 years / 90,000 (£1,670).

For contract hire customers (personal or business) utilising a funder-maintained package, there is no need to include this with your new Q8 electric, as our select finance companies already includes the cost of all servicing, maintenance and tyres within the maintenance package. For reference, the service intervals on the Q8 e-tron are every 30,000km (18,000 miles) or 2 years.

And what about the cost of the Sportback Q8 e-tron?

While the product suite and specification will be identical to the estate there is a small increase in price of the car for the benefit of the sportier exterior. The costs will be:

  •  Sport – from £69,500 for the 50 and £79,500 for the 55;
  •  S Line – from £74,500 for the 50 and £84,500 for the 55;
  •  Black Edition– from £77,000 for the 50 and £87,000 for the 55; and
  •  Vorsprung - from £91,500 for the 50 and £101,500 for the 55.

But how will the new Q8 electric perform – is this a good battery / range SUV?

In terms of the battery abilities, do note that there are small divergences between the estate and Sportback variants:

The new Q8 EV is now live on the Audi website  for UK customers to configure and begin the ordering process, with order banks opening in November 2022 for mid-2023 deliveries. There are no models yet available in any showrooms for test-driving, but the e-car lease team would suggest that you simply try the existing model with a view that the upgraded Q8 will be improved!

And which is the best funding product for the new electric Audi Q8?

As per the Audi website you can investigate a Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), Hire Purchase (HP) or Personal Contract Hire (PCH) solution as an individual. Or, for a business, you can utilise a HP, Finance Lease (FL) or Business Contract Hire (BCH).

Using our comprehensive funding guides, you can quickly, and easily, understand the rental (usership) and purchase (ownership) products which you can utilise. Fundamentally, it is a question of your subjective attitudes, accounting requirements and attitudes to risk.

Some customers do prefer using a car for a predetermined amount of time and just handing back at contract cessation whereas others do like the ability to own for at least 5 – 10 years. While EV tech is rapidly changing, so there may be an impetus to upgrade if cars are increasing range and charging capabilities but, at the same time, with lower servicing and maintenance requirements, EVs are proving to be robust and could be a genuine long term solution.
